‘Jeopardy!’: Dr. Sanjay Gupta Hosting Stint Coming To an End, How Does He Compare to Other Guest Hosts?

by Keeli Parkey

Recently, CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta joined a growing list of individuals lucky enough to serve as a guest host of “Jeopardy!”

The episodes of the popular quiz show with Gupta as the guest host will come to an end on Friday, July 9. Like many of the guest hosts who proceeded him, the popular physician hosted the show for two weeks.

Unsurprisingly, Gupta took on the responsibilities of hosting the show with a lot of nerves.

“I have tremendous respect for the show. And when you have tremendous respect for something, you want to … get everything right,” he reportedly said, according to TV Line.

With Gupta’s time on “Jeopardy!” coming to an end, it’s a great time to see how the good doctor compares to the guest hosts who were on the show before him. TV Line is asking fans of the series to share their opinions about how Gupta compares to other guest hosts.

In order to gauge the opinions of “Jeopardy!” fans, the site asked users to vote on their favorite guest host. As a reminder, other guests hosts on the show include Ken Jennings, Katie Couric, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Aaron Rodgers, Anderson Cooper, Bill Whitaker, Buzzy Cohen, Mayim Bialik, and Savannah Guthrie.

Another Guest Host Leads Hosting Poll

As of the evening of Thursday, July 7, Mayim Bialik was leading the way in this TV Line poll. Almost 30 percent of voters wanted to see her as the next host of “Jeopardy!”

Second in the poll at that time was Ken Jennings with almost 24 percent. The next highest total came from those who were undecided, with just over 15 percent of the vote.

Don’t forget that there are other guest hosts coming in the future of “Jeopardy!” These include George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, David Faber, and Joe Buck.

The site also asked fans to share their thoughts about Dr. Sanjay Gupta becoming the host. Fans were given the options of yes, no, and undecided. In response to this, just over 63 percent of “Jeopardy!” fans said he should not be the next host. Almost 20 percent said they were undecided and 17.49 percent said he should be the host.

‘Jeopardy!’ Executive Producer Said Show Is Listening to Fans

Time will tell as to who will be the permanent replacement for legendary host Alex Trebek on “Jeopardy!”

Choosing who follows in his footsteps is not a decision the powers that be behind the show are taking lightly.

“Our goal has been to present a wide variety of guest hosts with different skill sets and backgrounds on our path to finding a permanent host. Our passionate fans are telling us what they like, and we are listening. All of the guest hosts have brought individualism, energy, and an authentic love of our show to each of their episodes,” said “Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards.

Also, Richards himself knows what it’s like to host the show. He was one of the first guest hosts to stand behind Trebek’s podium following the iconic host’s death in November 2020.
