‘Jeopardy!’: Everything to Know About Next Guest Host Dr. Sanjay Gupta

The doctor is in the building. Starting Monday, June 28, a new “Jeopardy!” guest host is entering the rotation. Dr. Sanjay Gupta will be hosting for two weeks.

He is a CNN correspondent that specializes in medical and health-related news. He is a chief medical surgeon for the publication and is also a practicing neurosurgeon.

On his official CNN biography, it states, “Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon, plays an integral role in CNN’s reporting on health and medical news for all of CNN’s shows domestically and internationally, and regularly contributes to CNN.com.”

He has been covering these integral health stories since 2001. In the process, he has earned several Emmy Awards for his work. He has also been a really important voice during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Gupta has allowed people to navigate between the confusing new world and also distinguish between fact and fiction in terms of information being supplied.

Gupta was a reporter on the scene of the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York. Some of his other breaking stories include coverage of Hurricane Katrina, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, he spoke on the rollout of Healthcare.gov, he traveled to Conakry, Guinea to investigate the Ebola outbreak, and the Pulse nightclub shooting. He also worked as a White House Fellow in 1997. He wrote healthcare speeches for the former First Lady Hillary Clinton.

Gupta Is A Practicing Neurosurgeon

He was also behind the award-winning documentary, “Separated: Saving the Twins,” where he told the story of two craniopagus twins getting separated. You can watch his show, “Chasing Life with Dr. Sanjay Gupta,” on CNN.

He uses this program to travel around the world and show people different secrets to living out a happier, healthier, and longer life. He’s also the star of the documentary “One Nation Under Stress,” where he examined why life expectancy has taken a drastic downward spiral.

On top of all that, Dr. Sanjay Gupta is also an associate professor of neurosurgery at Emory University and an associate chief of neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital.

According to U.S. News, Gupta likes to listen to some Frank Sinatra and the Gipsy Kinds while he’s in the operating room. He also contributes to the popular CBS program, “60 Minutes.” He wrote four books — “Chasing Life,” “Cheating Death,” “Monday Mornings,” and “Keep Sharp: Building a Better Brain.”

Future ‘Jeopardy! Host, Pop Culture Icon

Somehow with all of that going on in his life, Dr. Sanjay Gupta made time to host “Jeopardy!” In a sneak peek of the Dr. as a host he states, “As a neurosurgeon, I understand the importance of exercising your brain, so I recommend watching ‘Jeopardy!’ every day.”

On top of his medical and news experience, Gupta is a pop culture icon. He has been named one of People magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive” in 2003. USA Today named him a “pop culture icon” and Forbes called him one of the “Ten Most Influential Celebrities.”

He also happens to be a father and husband. Dr. Sanjay Gupta married an attorney, Rebecca Olson Gupta, in 2004. The couple has two daughters — Sage and Sky.

All in all, Gupta is bringing a lot of brains and popularity with him to the “Jeopardy!” stage.
