‘Jeopardy!’: Fans Debate Whether ‘Mess’ of New Host Selection Process Should Lead Mayim Bialik to Step Down

by Madison Miller

It’s been an interesting couple of weeks for those in tune with the “Jeopardy!” world.

After months and months of guest hosts following the devastating death of longtime host Alex Trebek, studio executives finally selected the full-time replacement. Mike Richards had the position for nine days before he withdrew from his role over allegations of sexual harrassment and employment discrimination.

At the same time, Mayim Bialik got the role as the primetime host of tournaments and special “Jeopardy!” championships. Reportedly, she wasn’t able to have the full-time job because it didn’t align well with her chaotic schedule.

‘Jeopardy!’ Host Search Debate

Now, we’re back to square one. “Jeopardy!” will go back to guest hosts, starting with Mayim Bialik for three weeks, in order to figure out what the next move is.

A fan recently posted a poll on Reddit to gauge what other people were thinking about the situation.

The person wrote, “Do you think Mayim Bialik should also step down as official host of Jeopardy! because of the tainted selection process for the next permanent host?”

There are two voting options right now. The first is, “Yes, she should step down to preserve the integrity of the show & let the rightful host to take over the show.” The second is, “No, she was not to blame for this mess and she has done a great job during her guest-hosting week in June.”

As of now, there are a little over 300 votes on the poll. The answers seem to be pretty split too. A little over 170 people have voted for the no option, while a little over 130 have voted for the yes option.

One of the biggest discussions in the comment section is about the fact that people don’t believe she is to blame for the “fiasco” that went down. Someone wrote, “Why should she lose a lucrative and easy job because of this process?”

At the same time, however, many people just aren’t a fan of Bialik hosting in general, regardless of what happened during the hiring process. Several users claimed she just wasn’t the best with hosting. One person wrote, “Can we have a third option – ‘she should step down purely because she is bad at hosting.'”

Mayim Bialik Controversy

Since the news of Mike Richards, Mayim Bialik has been called out for comments she’s made in the past. Many of which focus on motherhood, children, birth, health, and science.

In the past, Bialik has discussed her vaccine hesitancy. She did so in her 2012 book called “Beyond the Sling.” She stated, in part, “We made an informed decision not to vaccinate our children, but this is a very personal decision that should be made only after sufficient research, which today is within reach of every parent who seeks to learn about their child’s health regardless of their medical knowledge or educational status.”

Fans have since discussed her stance on the COVID-19 vaccine. According to Vanity Fair, a representative from her team has stated, “She has been fully vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus and is not at all an anti-vaxxer.” She said that her stance on the matter has changed over the years and released a YouTube video about it.

At this point, it is unclear if Bialik will be offered the full-time “Jeopardy!” position or not.
