On Wednesday, Aug. 4, the news came to light that one individual has moved to the top of the list of possible permanent hosts of “Jeopardy!”
That individual is Mike Richards, a longtime executive producer on the popular quiz show. Richards is just one of many famous people who have hosted the show since the death of legendary “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek during November 2020.
Richards was one of the first guest hosts of the show. His brief stint took place from Feb. 22 through March 5, 2021, according to the show’s website. Richards also serves as an executive producer of “Wheel of Fortune.”
The list of other “Jeopardy!” guest hosts includes Ken Jennings, Katie Couric, Aaron Rodgers, Buzzy Cohen, Mayim Bialik, and LeVar Burton. Burton was one of the frontrunners for the permanent hosting gig for many fans, even before he hosted the show from July 26 through July 30. Jennings was another fan favorite. Other guest hosts were also fan favorites as well.

Another “Jeopardy!” fan favored champion Buzzy Cohen over Richards. “Sorry but Mike Richards was boring and forgettable as guest host. Buzzy Cohen ran circles around him,” @vandrivingmom posted.
And, @bbmetsfan was simply stunned by the news, saying: “Mike Richards?? Really? #Jeopardy.”

Another example comes from @jaylen_nv, who was excited to learn that Richards might land the job. She felt that he brought a similar vibe to Trebek’s, saying: “Mike Richards did an excellent job hosting Jeopardy and having worked with Alex for so long, I felt Alex’s spirit shining through. Congrats Mike!!!”

Richards taking over is not a done deal (as of the evening of Aug. 4). So, it will be interesting to see how negotiations play out.
