‘Jeopardy!’: Former Guest Host Joe Buck Fires Back at James Holzhauer After Twitter Jab

Sports gambler and legendary “Jeopardy!” contestant James Holzhauer isn’t the biggest fan of Joe Buck in the broadcast booth. Perhaps Buck announced a big game that didn’t go Holzhauer’s way. Maybe the numbers whiz doesn’t like Buck’s broadcast style. Whatever the case, after firing shots at the longtime Fox Sports announcer in a lighthearted tweet recently, Joe Buck finally returned fire.

“Jeopardy!” fans may well remember Holzhauer’s tweet from August 9. During Joe Buck’s guest-hosting stint on the iconic game show, the former contestant joked about how much he wanted Buck to get the permanent job. Why? So it would keep him out of the broadcast booth.

Holzhauer followed the tweet up with a hilarious list of the people he most wanted to see get the “Jeopardy!” position in hopes they’d quit their day job. Aaron Rodgers filled out the top of that list. And that doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering all of the hearts Rodger’s broken at the helm of the Green Bay Packers over the years.

A close second on Holzhauer’s list, however, was none other than Joe Buck. After those two, he skipped all the way down to #16, where he placed Ken Jennings. Also sensible, considering Jennings appears alongside him on “The Chase.”

Apparently, Joe Buck didn’t have much context for the tweet from “The Highroller.” Until he appeared on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast with Jimmy Traina, that is.

“I wouldn’t know James Holzhauer if he was sitting here in my room. I don’t know much about him, I know about his success on the show, but I don’t know what kind of a guy he is.” Apparently, Buck was unbothered. “I’m at the point now where I am so overreacting to Twitter.”

Former ‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Joe Buck Tries to Stay Above Comments Like Those in Holzhauer’s Tweet

Ask longtime Fox Sports announcer Joe Buck, and tweets like the one Holzhauer posted don’t often come to his attention. Whether or not Holzhauer posted the tweet in jest, Buck makes an effort not to look at stuff like that.

“I don’t know who he roots for. I don’t know where he’s from,” Buck said. “So that’s how I took it and kind of did a little eye roll and moved on to the next 3-year-old’s diaper I had to change. That kind of stuff is becoming less relevant in my life.”

Hear that, Holzhauer? Joe Buck is too busy caring for his twin toddlers.

“It’s one of those things I would never see if not for people in my life who can’t wait to go, ‘Oh, I don’t know if you saw this, but James Holzhauer is ripping you, so I don’t really have any context. I’m not going to bed crying, sucking my thumb because James Holzhauer doesn’t like me,” Buck finished.
