New Jeopardy! guest host Anderson Cooper admits to cramming as much knowledge as he could before his celebrity appearance.

We have all been there. The night before a test or quiz, you realize you know nothing about the topic and begin cramming as much as you can. Oh, we have definitely been through that. College, baby.

Crushing it to Getting Crushed

From one interviewer to another, Anderson Cooper reveals to Jimmy Kimmel his process of preparing (or not preparing) to be a contestant on Jeopardy!

“Yeah, so I was on it four times. The first time I crushed it. I panicked the night before because I sort of agreed to do it without really thinking about it, like going on Millionaire when you were there. You know, the night before I was about to go and I realized, ‘oh my God, I don’t know anything about geography. I don’t know where the Baltic sea or the Arabian Sea… I mean, I do.”

However, as any of you worry warts out there know, you cannot go to sleep with your mind racing with questions that you do know have the answer to. Anderson Cooper also explained how he had to then “cram” for his appearance.

“All these things run through your mind, so I tried to cram online. I read all these buzzer theories by former Jeopardy! champions and things about Alex Trebek’s voice and getting into the cadence of it and the zen rhythm of it.”

While Anderson Cooper may have won his first game of Jeopardy!, the second was a different story.

“But I crushed it the first time. The second time, I was playing against Cheech Marin, which I was like, oh my God, this is going to be a cakewalk. I mean, I’ve seen Cheech and Chong movies. Turns out, he is the smartest guy. He destroyed me, and do you know what it’s like to walk into the CNN newsroom the day after Cheech Marin has destroyed you.”

Anderson Cooper on the Hot Seat

In four games as a contestant, Anderson Cooper only missed five questions he was faced with. Jimmy Kimmel reasked Cooper three of the questions he got wrong when he was on the show.

Surprisingly, he answered two out of the three questions correctly. Kimmel hilariously informs Anderson Cooper what would happen if he didn’t do well.

“You know, I’m going to be honest with you,” says Kimmel. “The Jeopardy! people sent us these questions, and they told me if he doesn’t get at least two of these right, he can’t host, so this will be good.”

Anderson Cooper begins his two-week reign as Jeopardy! guest host on Monday, April 19.
