‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host David Faber: Remembering When the CNBC Host Won ‘Power Players’ Episode

by Keeli Parkey

Episodes featuring CNBC journalist David Faber as the guest host of “Jeopardy!” are hitting the small screen today (Monday, Aug. 2).

Faber is just one of many guest hosts who have stood behind the “Jeopardy!’ podium that was vacated by the death of long-time host Alex Trebek in November 2020. What you might not know about the famous journalist Faber is that he once won an episode of the popular quiz show.

According to Business Insider, Faber claimed victory on the show during May 2012. He took part in one of the quiz show’s “Power Players Week.” In his episode, the respected journalist faced off against NBA legend Kareen Abdul-Jabbar and Dana Perino of Fox News.

Thanks to his victory on “Jeopardy!” David Faber was able to donate $50,000 to the charity of his choosing. At that time, he chose to give that $50,000 to New Visions for Public Schools.

Like the other “Jeopardy!” guest hosts before him, Faber has selected a charity that will benefit from his time hosting the popular quiz show. According to the “Jeopardy!’ website, the journalist has selected the Robin Hood Foundation as his charity of choice.

The Robin Hood Foundation, according to its website, supports those who are living in poverty in New York City. Here’s a description of the organization: “For over thirty years, we’ve been finding, fueling and creating the most impactful and scalable solutions to lift families out of poverty in New York City. We partner with over 250 nonprofits to support food, housing, education, legal services, workforce development, and more to New Yorkers living in poverty across all five boroughs.”

Also, the organization helps approximately a half-million New Yorkers each year. It provides assistance to keep 200,000 of the famous city’s residents from going hungry. It also helps 10,000 residents land jobs they need. Also, 11,000 people each year receive assistance finding housing. This organization will be supported by David Faber’s guest-hosting stint on “Jeopardy!’

Journalist David Faber Recently Discussed the Nerves He Felt Serving as the Guest Host of ‘Jeopardy!’

Unsurprisingly, CNBC journalist David Faber was nervous to serve as the guest host of “Jeopardy!” Even though there have been several guest hosts before him, standing behind Alex Trebek’s podium is intimidating.

“But I was definitely feeling the nerves initially. Because it’s new. And something new always gets you going. But then I sort of calmed down,” Faber also said during an interview shared by “Jeopardy!

Getting nervous in front of a camera is not something Faber does all that often these days.

“I was (nervous). Certainly the first time,” Faber explained. “I don’t get nervous anymore, thankfully in front of a TV camera. Maybe for a sitdown with the president or something like that.”

Like the guest hosts before him, Faber wanted his time on the show to be a success. “I wanted to be really good. That was the main thing,” the CNBC journalist shared.
