‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Savannah Guthrie Announces Charity Selection for the Show

Savannah Guthrie begins her two-week stint as “Jeopardy!” guest host on Monday. The co-anchor of NBC’s morning news show follows actress Mayim Bialik, who finished her stint on June 11.

Broadcast journalist and attorney Guthrie has been on the NBC show “Today” since 2012. She previously worked as a White House correspondent, as well as a co-anchor for MSNBC’s “The Daily Rundown.”

The guest host has covered high-profile legal proceedings including the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, the abduction and murder trial of Carlie Brucia, the Martha Stewart stock market case, and a trial involving Michael Jackson.

Now, she takes on one of America’s favorite game shows in “Jeopardy!” One of the best parts for Guthrie and every guest host is picking the charity that will get a donation.

During the two-week run, “Jeopardy!” matches and donates the amount equal to the contestants’ total winnings. Also, each guest host gets to choose which charity will receive the game show’s donation.

While Bialik hosted she picked the National Alliance on Mental Illness, which will receive $194,851.

Guthrie’s choice will be The Bowery Mission. The charity’s main goal is to help the homeless and hungry people in New York.

About The Bowery Mission

Since the 1870s, The Bowery Mission has served homeless and hungry New Yorkers. Today, it’s recognized as one of the most effective organizations with that goal.

According to their site, The Bowery Mission is called to minister in the New York metro area to men, women, and children.

Their aim is to help those caught in the cycles of poverty, hopelessness and dependencies. Being a Christian organization, they also make it a point to spread the word of the Bible.

They help by ensuring each meal and every service is an invitation to residential and community programs. This in addition to providing support for those trying to become sober. A big idea in the organization’s mission is to help individuals get back to work and living independently.

The organization also aims to empower children and offers year-round opportunities for enrichment for youth.

‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Savannah Guthrie Admits She’s Nervous

As “Jeopardy!” gets ready to air on June 14, guest host Savannah Guthrie has been chatting about her experience. To say the least, she’s nervous. Guthrie’s worried about pleasing fans. She also admits it’s going to be difficult to follow in Alex Trebek’s footsteps.

“I think it’s such big shoes to fill,” she said. “Alex was not only legendary in how he did it, he was legendary in how he conducted himself off-air and the family that he created. [He was] such a revered figure.

On the contrary, Guthrie believes her guest-hosting duties will be impressive at future parties.

“However, I studied really hard. I read everything ahead of time and I hope some of those facts stay in my head so I can impress people at cocktail parties,” Guthrie said to Newsweek.
