‘Jeopardy!’ Honors Memorial Day With Special Post Dedicated to Service Members Who Lost Their Lives in Line of Duty

Popular game show “Jeopardy!” is honoring Memorial Day and the men and women of the armed forces with an interesting factoid.

Firstly, Memorial Day is a holiday set aside to remember the men and women who fought and died in the name of freedom. Secondly, millions of Americans are remembering the sacrifices of military personnel by visiting Memorial Day services. “Jeopardy!” is among the many choosing to honor the fallen by posting a few simple words on social media. As they often do on social media, “Jeopardy!” shared a few interesting facts with their fans and followers. The Memorial Day social media post deals with Arlington National Cemetary, one of the largest military cemeteries in the country.

“Today we honor and remember the service members who lost their lives in the line of duty,” the Monday post reads.

The “Jeopardy!” Instagram account then reveals just how big the National Military Cemetery is and how many flags are needed.

“More than 200,000 flags are placed on graves at Arlington National Cemetery just before Memorial Day each year,” the image from Mental Floss says. “The ‘Flags-in’ ceremony takes members of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment about four hours to complete.”

Several “Jeopardy!” fans appreciated the gesture and used the comments section of the post to write their Memorial Day tributes.

‘Jeopardy!’ Moves Forward With Celebrity Hosts

The last few months have seen a great deal of change for “Jeopardy!”. Nevertheless, the show marches forward in the absence of longtime host Alex Trebek. The Canadian hosted “Jeopardy!” for 37 straight years, recording his final episodes just days before his death on November 8. He was 80-years-old at the time of his passing after fighting pancreatic cancer for years.

However, “Jeopardy!” has turned to various celebrities to serve as guest hosts of the show. Today (Monday) brings actress Mayim Bialik’s debut as guest host. She’s known for her roles in hit television shows “Blossom” and “Big Bang Theory.” Additionally, Bialik also has a doctorate in neuroscience. “Jeopardy!” took to social media yesterday (Sunday) to tease her first appearance behind the host’s lectern.

“It’s a dream come true for Mayim Bialik: she’s going to a ‘Jeopardy!’ guest host!” the Instagram post proclaims.

Bialik follows former “Jeopardy!” contestant and Tournament of Champions winner Buzzy Cohen after his two-week stint ended. Additionally, like other celebrity guest hosts, Bialik will get two weeks to show her stuff before another guest host takes over.
