Alex Trebek, legendary Jeopardy host, has passed at 80 years old after battling pancreatic cancer.
The game show shared their grievances Sunday, thanking the iconic host.
“Jeopardy is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends,” a Jeopardy spokesperson told TMZ.
The television personality passed away in his home surrounded by friends and family on Sunday morning, TMZ reports.
He announced his pancreatic cancer diagnosis in March 2019. He began chemo after the diagnosis and battled for over a year. Jeopardy shared a video from the host himself, to openly air the information and avoid inaccurate tabloid reports. In the video, he promotes transparency and shares his health status with fans.
“And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease,” he says in the video.
TMZ also reports that Trebek recognized his low chances at survival this year. Before his passing, he was open about the fact that statistics show survival rates in the second year of pancreatic cancer are just seven percent.
Alex Trebek was the Jeopardy host since 1984 and filmed the beginning of his 37th season earlier this year.
