‘Jeopardy!’ Icon Ken Jennings is Celebrating the ‘End of an Era’ as ‘Conan’ Wraps Up on TBS

by Anna Dunn

Conan is wrapping up for good, and Jeopardy! champion and producer Ken Jennings is saying a proper goodbye. Jennings, who also guest-hosted Jeopardy! earlier this year, often takes to Twitter to make witty remarks or light-hearted observations.

The 47-year-old was old enough to see the start of Conan. Now, he’s seeing the show end. He tweeted a response to Andy Richter. Richter was promoting the show as it nears its final two weeks.

“End of an era! (This is the kind of thing I only get moony about when the “era” started the year I started college.),” Jennings said.

The ‘End of an Era’ Marks the Start of Something New

If Jennings is worried he won’t see the witty ginger talk-show host anymore, he shouldn’t be. While it’s definitely the end of an era for Conan on broadcast, he’s moving on to streaming.

“In 1993, Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: ‘As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform,'” Conan joked on his show. “‘I’m thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription.”

How the HBO version of Conan’s show will be different is hard to say, but now that he’s on a platform, O’Brien may have more room to be a bit more himself and less censored. The end of Conan on CBS will air on June 24th.

‘Jeopardy!’ Is also Ushering in a New Era

After the tragic passing of long-time Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, the show now must find a permanent replacement. This season has served as a transition season for the show, ushering in a multitude of celebrity guest hosts to varying degrees of success.

No matter what, however, a new host will be named before the end of next season. It’s hard to say who it’ll be, but there are a few standout contenders.

First, NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers is eyeing the permanent hosting spot. Rodgers shocked audiences with how well he did on the show as a host. The football player has been a massive Jeopardy! fan for quite some time, and even described meeting Alex Trebek as one of the best moments of his life.

Another top contender is LeVar Burton. Many believe the former Star Trek star and Reading Rainbow host would make the perfect Jeopardy! host. In fact, Burton hasn’t even hosted yet and he’s already a major contender. The educator and actor will take to the Jeopardy! stage from July 26th through July 30th

Finally, Ken Jennings himself is also a contender. The former champion truly embodies all things Jeopardy! His experience on the show would certainly make him an attractive option for producers, and his success as a guest host for sure keeps him in the running.

For now, however, we’ll just have to sit back and see what happens. Times are changing for these new shows, but their futures are looking bright.
