‘Jeopardy!’ Icon Ken Jennings Gets Much-Needed Assist from Congresswoman for Passport Issue

by Chris Haney

On Tuesday afternoon, Jeopardy! legend Ken Jennings received a helping hand from some of his almost half a million Twitter followers.

At times being famous can definitely have its advantages. Jennings seemed to be in a bit of a bind today over one of his children’s passports. Jennings has two teenaged kids, an eldest son and a younger daughter. Evidently, the family has been waiting for months for one of their passports to be renewed to no avail.

The former Jeopardy! champion shared the issue on Twitter. Jennings was growing concerned since his family has an upcoming trip abroad. The Jennings family is planning on visiting his kids’ grandparents who they haven’t seen since the COVID-19 pandemic began last year.

He admitted the situation is not a “life-or-death” issue. But the brainiac asked if there were “any Jeopardy! fans out there who have US passport connections?”

Jennings continued the conversation on Twitter in a couple of additional posts. He said he’s requested expedited service, congressional help, and tried to schedule an in-person appointment. Yet none of the options have panned out so far.

“I’ve spent the last month trying to request expedited service, congressional help, or schedule an in-person appointment. So far no dice due to pandemic backlog. DMs are open to all my secret influential State Department followers!” Jennings tweeted.

In the end, it sounds like the former Jeopardy! champion figured things out with the help of some of his followers.

“Update: just got an in-person appointment scheduled thanks to some amazing folks at Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s office. Appreciate all the replies!” he tweeted.

‘Jeopardy!’ Legend Ken Jennings Got to Throw Out the First Pitch at Seattle Mariners Game

While Ken Jennings faced an uphill battle with his family’s passport issue, he had more positive news to share with his followers earlier this month. Two weeks ago, the Jeopardy! champion had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at the Seattle Mariners game. The Seattle native is a lifelong fan of the MLB team, and shared his excitement for the moment on Twitter.

The die-hard Mariners fan made sure to remind his fans and Twitter followers that he’d be in attendance on July 2. But he wouldn’t only be watching the game like most days he spends at T-Mobile Park. The local hero and celebrity instead got to kick off the game with the first pitch.

Jennings is known for his humorous Twitter posts, and his first pitch announcement was no different. He claimed that he wouldn’t be throwing just any normal pitch to open the game. The Jeopardy! GOAT instead said he was going to throw a tricky baseball pitch called a knuckleball.

The difficult pitch is thrown slower than normal and batters see very little spin on the baseball as it heads toward home plate. The unpredictability of the knuckleball makes it a tough pitch to hit. However, not to doubt Jennings’ abilities, but it was probably best to stick to a straight pitch down the middle.

“I’m throwing out the first pitch tomorrow! Might try a knuckler,” the Jeopardy! champ amusingly tweeted.
