Known for his intellect and sharp wit, former Jeopardy! contestant Ken Jennings often shows off his comedic chops on social media.
A weekend encounter with a fan at Burbank Airport is the most recent example of the Jeopardy! icon’s hilarity. Jennings took “offense” to a man telling him he hasn’t met anyone “really famous” at the airport. Obviously, Jennings wasn’t truly offended by the person’s remarks and laughed it off. The fellow plane passenger owned up to the “low-key” insult by replying to Jennings’ social media post on Twitter.
“Guy at Burbank airport: I knew it was you!” Jennings begins as he tells his latest airport story. “I saw Sinbad here once. So…never anybody REALLY famous but it’s still fun.”
The Jeopardy! legend adds an angry face emoji to the end of his tweet for dramatic effects.
To his credit, the alleged low-key insulter owned up to his poor attempt at making a joke at Jennings’ expense.
“That was me!” he replies proudly. “I felt a lot of pressure to say something smart and funny and instead low-key insulted a legend. Sorry, Ken!”
Jennings then made a joke of his own geared toward another celebrity. It most likely made the insulting party feel much better at the situation.
“Danny Bonaduce was also on my flight, so your maxim hold true,” he says.
Neither Sinbad or Danny Bonaduce has responded to the tweets as Tuesday afternoon.
Jeopardy! Champ Becomes First Guest Host
Earlier this year, Jennings became the first celebrity to guest host Jeopardy! upon the passing of Alex Trebek. The longtime host succumbed to his battle with pancreatic cancer in November of last year. Trebek hosted the popular quiz show for 37 years before his death.
Jennings is a favorite among Jeopardy! fans for his high level of intellect and dry sense of humor. He spent six weeks as the guest host and drew a high score on the Nielsen rating chart. His 6.0 Nielsen is the highest score among all of the Jeopardy! guest hosts who’ve completed their two-week terms. Others stepping in to fill the role of guest host include NFL star Aaron Rodgers, journalists Katie Couric and Anderson Cooper, talk show host Dr. Mehmet Oz and executive producer Mike Richards. Guest hosting duties are currently being held by 60 minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker. His term as host will expire this Friday. Former contestant Buzzy Cohen will assume hosting duties for the upcoming Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions.
