Congratulations are in order for the entire Jeopardy! team. Last night, the iconic quiz show added another Daytime Emmy Award to its already expansive collection. However, the last year has been rough for the show. Alex Trebek, who was arguably the heart of the show, passed away last November. Since then, the show has had a series of guest hosts. Among those hosts were former quiz show champs as well as popular television personalities.
However, some guest-hosts were more popular than others. Jeopardy! fans had major objections to one host. In fact, fans called for a boycott of the show while Mehmet Oz stood behind the show’s lectern. On the other hand, most fans loved Buzzy Cohen‘s turn as host. In fact, many long-time fans want to see either Cohen or trivia icon Ken Jennings as the permanent host.
In short, the last year has held some serious ups and downs for Jeopardy!. However, the lows were never enough to overshadow the highs. This, among many other reasons, is why the iconic show won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show.
After the winner for the Daytime Emmy was announced, Ken Jennings took to Twitter to congratulate the Jeopardy! team.
Ken Jennings Salutes Jeopardy! Team via Twitter
In the tweet, Ken Jennings said, “Congrats to my friends at Jeopardy!” Jennings went on to say that the win was well-deserved. According to the quiz show icon, they kept the “answers and questions coming,” in a year that was, as he put it, “VERY eventful.”
However, Jeopardy! didn’t just take home the win for Outstanding Game Show. The show also won the award for Outstanding Game Show Host. If anyone deserves that title it is the late great Alex Trebek. Ken Jennings also tweeted about that win. However, he kept that tweet short and sweet. He simply said, “Thank you, Alex.”
Ken Jennings is a Jeopardy! icon. However, he spends most of his time on Twitter making humorous observations. He seldom mentions the classic quiz show anymore. But, when something as big as a pair of Daytime Emmy Awards happens, the former champ can’t help but chime in. After all, Jennings owes his current livelihood to the show. More importantly, he has a deep respect for the series and its late host.
Jeopardy! will announce a new permanent host in the near future. There is a solid possibility that Jennings himself will attempt to fill the shoes of the multiple award-winning Trebek.
