’Jeopardy!’: Kate Couric’s Donation Amount Revealed After Guest Hosting Stint

For the past couple of weeks, the legendary journalist and news anchor Katie Couric has hosted Jeopardy!. She took over hosting duties after Ken Jennings had his six-week stint. Since long-time host Alex Trebek passed away last year, Jeopardy! has handed the podium over to several guest hosts. As Couric finishes up her time, the show revealed how much money she raised for cancer during her time on the show.

“$230,504 will be donated to Stand Up To Cancer,” Jeopardy! announced on Twitter last night. “As part of Katie Couric’s two-week appearance on Jeopardy!

Katie Couric has worked beside Stand Up To Cancer since 2008 when she co-founded it. Cancer research and searching for a cure has been an extremely important cause in her life. Especially since pancreatic cancer took the life of her sister in 2001. The deadly disease also claimed the life of former Jeopardy! host, Alex Trebek in November.

The $230,504 that the show will donate equals the total winnings of the contestants during her time on the show. While that doesn’t quite reach the total of Ken Jennings’ winnings on the show, 200 grand is no small amount of cash. Hopefully, with their donation toward cancer research, Jeopardy! can help raise awareness for Katie Couric’s organization and can lead others to donate. Their donation feels appropriate given the circumstances of Trebek’s death. But, the donation also follows the spirit of Trebek’s generosity.

Who Will Become the Permanent Host of Jeopardy!

As Jeopardy! continues to invite a star-studded cast of guest hosts this season, they hope to find one that will stick around for good. So far, Ken Jennings, Mike Richards, and Katie Couric have laid down their resumes and interviewed for the position. Several more guest hosts will come and showcase their skills on the legendary show.

Recently, TVline.com held a vote on Twitter to gauge the room on who currently has the best chance of winning the job. As of right now, a clear favorite has emerged. Between the three guest hosts who have already done their time, Ken Jennings comes out as the strong betting favorite for the permanent role with over 40 percent of the vote. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering fans literally threatened to boycott Jeopardy! when his hosting time came to an end. With that said, a solid twenty percent said they wanted to see the rest of the guest hosts before deciding.
