‘Jeopardy!’: Ken Jennings Enters Last Week as Guest Host, Watch His Alex Trebek Tribute From First Night Taking Stage

by Madison Miller

For those who are a fan of Ken Jennings as the current “Jeopardy!” guest host, his time on the show is coming to an end very soon.

The show has not named a long-term replacement for Alex Trebek. He passed away in November 2020 from stage-four pancreatic cancer. After he passed away, Jennings was placed as the temporary host.

The “Greatest of All Time” champion is hosting his final week now. According to Deseret News, his ratings have been incredibly strong. His first week brought in 10.3 million viewers. This is second to Alex Trebek’s final week hosting his beloved show.

Ken Jennings Tribute to Alex Trebek

While he has taken over for Trebek, he has honored him in countless ways during his time as guest host.

The very first day that he hosted the show Jennings gave a touching tribute as soon as he was introduced on stage.

“Sharing this stage with Alex Trebek was one of the greatest honors of my life. Not many things in life are perfect, but Alex did this job pretty much perfectly for more than 36 years. It was even better up close. We were dazzled by his intelligence, his charm, his grace … like all ‘Jeopardy!’ fans I miss Alex, very much. I thank him for everything he did for all of us. Let’s be totally clear, no one will ever replace the great Alex Trebek, but we can honor him by playing the game he loved,” Ken Jennings said on stage.

His initial and emotional tribute got a lot of fan’s attention. Viewers were also a big fan of the fact that at the end of every episode he says, “Thank you, Alex.”

The touching sign-off was Executive Producer Mike Richard’s idea to honor Trebek.

Future Guest Hosts for ‘Jeopardy!’

While Ken Jennings’ time on the show is coming to an end, there are more guest hosts on the roster.

The show has a number of guests lined up. Next up is Mike Richards, executive producer of both “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune.” He will guest host from Feb. 22 to March 5.

After that will be journalist and author, Katie Couric, from March 8 to March 18. She will be the first-ever female host on the show.

Other hosts will be Dr. Mehmet Oz, Aaron Rodgers, Anderson Cooper, Bill Whitaker, Savanna Guthrie, Mayim Bialik, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta. The timeline for these guest hosts will be confirmed at a later date.

Jennings as the Host

While he had many fans tuning in, Jennings was a controversial guest host. Not only was he the first to step in after Trebek, but he also had a series of inappropriate tweets resurface from the past.

According to Indie Wire, many people had discovered a series of inappropriate tweets from the past. One of which said, “Nothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair.”

Fans had pointed out his tweets from the past. Jennings remained silent for a bit before commenting.

“I’d usually leave bad tweets up just so they could be dunked on. At least that way they could lead to smart replies and even advocacy. Sometimes I said dumb things in a dumb way and I want to apologize to people who were (rightfully!) offended. It wasn’t my intention to hurt anyone, but that doesn’t matter: I screwed up, and I’m truly sorry,” he wrote on Twitter.
