Former Jeopardy! champion James Holzhauer looks to be taking on a new job. All of you sports betters out there will definitely want to pay attention.
According to Andrew Marchand, a sports media columnist for the New York Post, the Jeopardy! legend will soon be the newest member of the writing staff for The Athletic. He will serve as a columnist with a primary focus on sports betting.
“Jeopardy’s James Holzhauer will be writing a sports betting column for The Athletic, according to a source,” Marchand posted to Twitter on Monday evening.
We all know the kind of unparalleled success that James Holzhauer had during his stint on the popular game show, Jeopardy! In fact, Holzhauer is the third most-winningest player in Jeopardy! history. He was able to win over $131,000 in just one game, beating out Roger Craig’s previous record. And his career earnings topped out at $2,962,216 during his time on the show. That number leaves him behind only Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings — two fellow game show legends.
But Holzhauer’s success did not come to a halt after his insane Jeopardy! run. The well-known sports gambler was able to parlay his rise to stardom on the show into his own successful game show on The Chase.
‘Jeopardy!’ Legend is the Perfect Fit as a Sports Betting Columnist
It’s hard to say exactly what the details of James Holzhauer’s contract with The Athletic will be, but just know this: there isn’t anyone more qualified to write about sports betting than Holzhauer himself.
Before he became a popular game show figure across the United States, Holzhauer made an entire professional career out of betting on sports. He has hit big on just about everything in the sports world — the World Baseball Classic, NFL, MLB, and college basketball. Oh, and he also has experience competing in the World Series of Poker.
With his experience as a professional sports better and his success as one of the top game show contestants of all time, James Holzhauer has the personality and insight to drive up sales for The Athletic. And in the end, that’s what it’s all about.
Speaking of Holzhauer’s notable personality, he currently has more than 250,000 followers on Twitter alone. That kind of following — especially for someone as credible as Holzhauer — should certainly lead to some early interest.
We aren’t quite sure what exactly the former Jeopardy! star will be writing about. Is he going to zero in mainly on professional sports? Will he address only straight-up odds or dive into other betting lanes? It’s hard to say, but the possibilities are nearly endless. That’s what makes this pairing so intriguing.
