“Jeopardy!” is still cycling through its guest hosts. The executives of the show are hoping to pick and announce an official full-time host for the trivia show.
Before that happens, there are still plenty of weeks to fill with exciting and diverse guest hosts.
Last week and this upcoming week is being hosted by Mayim Bialik. She is an actress, author, and neuroscientist. She’s most known for her TV roles in “The Big Bang Theory” and “Call Me Kat.” The show posted a promotional clip of Bialik behind the podium looking cheery and excited.
So far, “Jeopardy!” fans seem to like her spunky and fun personality on the show. One person on Instagram commented, “We love Mayim as host. She’s so cheery, and smart!” Another said, “Yes!!! Make her the permanent host!!!!”
Bialik herself was beyond excited to take on the iconic role. She said in an exclusive interview with the ABC show, “I can’t imagine not wanting to do anything involved with Jeopardy! … This is such an iconic and unbelievable piece of our collective culture. To be considered to be a part of it, really in any way, is an immense honor, especially for someone who’s dedicated so much of my life to academia, to knowing things and to being able to communicate things.”
Similar to other guest hosts, Mayim Bialik is living out a lifelong dream.
‘Jeopardy!’ Considers Permanent Host
Since the show started cycling through guest hosts, viewers at home have been rooting for who they want to become the full-time host of the show. Although viewer opinion matters, it’s not really the top priority for the producers of “Jeopardy!” There’s a lot that goes into picking a host for the longtime trivia show, especially after the kind of legacy Alex Trebek left behind.
“It’s going to come down to the heads of Sony (Entertainment) to make that decision, ultimately, and it’ll come down to testing. They’ve been a part of it. They know what’s going on in the studio. They’re watching the feed, the tapings. It’s very extensive. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of, as far as testing in its size and scope,” the show’s executive producer Mike Richards said in an interview on The Wall Street Journal’s podcast.
He’s expecting it to be a familiar face, however. This means all these guest hosts have the possibility to become the next full-time host. Mayim Bialik is the ninth guest host of “Jeopardy!” After Bialik, Savannah Guthrie will host from June 14-25. She is the co-anchor of NBC’s “Today” since 2012. Dr. Sanjay Gupta will host from June 28-July 9. He is CNN’s chief medical correspondent and a “60 Minutes” correspondent.
George Stephanopoulos will host from July 12-16. He is the anchor of “Good Morning America” and “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” After that, Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, David Faber, and Joe Buck are slated to host. LeVar Burton is perhaps the most highly anticipated of the rest of the guest hosts. An online petition helped get Burton onto the show in the first place.
It seems like the guest hosts are scheduled up until mid-August. Perhaps at that point, a full-time guest will be ready to fill in.
