Dr. Oz Mehmet, host of “The Doctor Oz Show,” is halfway through his stint as celebrity guest host of Jeopardy!
He is the fourth celebrity to take the mantle of celebrity guest host since the passing of long-time host Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek. The selected hosts are using the opportunity to raise money for charities of their own choosing.
Through the first week of his hosting tenure, Oz has managed to raise nearly $130,000 for Healthcorps. The exact dollar amount raised this week is $129,901 for the worthy cause.
According to its website, Healthcorps is a national nonprofit that gives teens tools to improve mental and physical health to live happier lives. Jeopardy! is matching contestant winnings on episodes airing from March 22 to April 2 to support students to become health advocates. Those air dates coincide with Dr. Oz’s run a celerity guest host on the ever-popular quiz show.
Dr. Oz began his tenure earlier this week and will end his run after next Friday’s episode. Former contestant Ken Jennings, executive producer Mike Richards and journalist Katie Couric previously served as guest hosts. Trebek passed away in November 2020 having lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.
Trebek, who hosted the show for 37 years, was 80-years-old at the time of his passing. He recorded his final episodes of Jeopardy! only days for his death. The final episode of his tenure aired earlier this year on January 8.
Jeopardy! Hosting Comes Natural to Dr. Oz
It is safe to say Oz has enjoyed his tenure as guest host and Jeopardy! watchers say he’s done an excellent job through his first week. He seems particularly adept at meeting and introducing the show’s contestant as evidenced in a recent social media post. The Instagram post shows Oz introducing a returning player and revealing a special talent that the man has.
Green Bay Packers superstar quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers is up next after Dr. Oz. Rodgers, who took his team all the way to the NFC Championship game last season, will begin his run on Monday, April 5.
He will be followed by journalists Anderson Cooper, Savannah Guthrie and Bill Whitaker. Actress Mayim Bialik and Dr. Sanjay Gupta also wait in the Jeopardy! wings for their chance to host.
