Reigning “Jeopardy!” champion Matt Amodio has done it again as he claimed another victory with Monday evening’s episode.
The win moves Amodio into second place on the all-time “Jeopardy!” wins list with 24 straights victories. He moves closer to game show icon James Holzhauer with the win and is now looking up at Ken Jennings. Largely considered the greatest game show contestant of all time, Jennings famously won 74 straight episodes of “Jeopardy!” in 2004. He would go on to win several other renditions of the popular game show and claimed the title of G.O.A.T. in 2019.
Jennings defeated Holzhauer and fellow “Jeopardy!” legend Brad Rutter to determine the “Greatest of All Time” champion. Amodio has a ways to go before he catches Jennings but some game show fans believe he can. “Jeopardy!” fans cite Amodio’s dominant performances and sharp intellect as reasons he is staring down Jennings’ record. Through his 24-game winning streak, the champ has won most every episode in comfortable fashion and has rarely been challenged by fellow competitors.
An overlooked yet important aspect of Amodio’s reign is his preparation fo4 each and every match. “Jeopardy! records several episodes per day, meaning Amodio must rise up and meet the challenge for each game. It can be rather exhausting, Amodio explains in a recent interview with The Ringer.
“Having to go for a full day, ride the energy all day with all that enthusiasm, and then knowing that you have to go to sleep early and then wake up early to be ready to do it all again—it’s tough,” he says. “I think that’s one of the reasons why you have so few long-term champions right there, where even if the game weren’t also changing underneath you with new questions, that physical aspect is really tough.”
‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Are Pulling for Matt Amodio to Win Big
When it comes to the world of game shows, there are few things more exciting than a “Jeopardy!” champion riding a hot streak. With his quirky charm and unassuming personality, Amodio has won over the show’s robust fan base. Now, the big question is just how far will the young champion take it. There are many who are rooting for him to catch Jennings and surpass his impressive win totals.
Fans are also already clamoring for a Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer and Matt Amodio showdown. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen but it is a definite possibility.
Through his 24-game winning streak, Amodio has amassed impressive financial totals. He’s already cleared $800,000 and could break into the millions by the end of the week-provided he continues his winning streak.
Tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 21), Amodio will go for his 25th win in a row against a fresh set of competitors. You can bet “Jeopardy!” fans from around the world will be tuning in to see him play.
