‘Jeopardy!’: Matt Amodio Handles the Loss With Pure Class in Moments After Streak Comes To an End

by Thad Mitchell

After 38 consecutive victories, the second-longest “Jeopardy!” winning streak has come to an end for champion Matt Amodio.

Amodio’s run on the popular quiz show will not soon be forgotten by “Jeopardy!” fans. There are few things more thrilling in the game show world than a “Jeopardy!” contestant making a run at history. While he came up well short in his bid to catch game show GOAT Ken Jennings, Amodio will go down in history as one of the most successful game show competitors.

Once the run began, several months ago, Amodio became a favorite of the game show’s robust fan base. Yes, fans wanted to see history being made but Amodio won the over after tuning in. He had a quiet confidence about himself but came off as completely humble. There was no arrogance to be found in Matt Amodio as handled his entire run with class, dignity and an unselfish attitude. He applied those same characteristics in defeat as his streak would come to a stunning conclusion on Monday.

“Jeopardy!” took to social media after the episode to honor Amodio’s run and congratulate their new champion, Jonathan Fisher. Though obviously disappointed in his loss, Amodio is quick to congratulate Fisher on his win, It is the class at that we have come to know and expect from the 38-game “Jeopardy!” winner.

“You saw the big moment,” the social media post says. “Now, find out what was said when the microphones kept recording after Matt Amodio’s last Final Jeopardy!.”

‘Jeopardy!” Bids Farewell to 38-Game Winner Matt Amodio

While Fisher is overcome with emotion, and who wouldn’t be, Amodio is the calm and cool presence he’s always been. He knew this day would come eventually and it appears he was mentally and emotionally prepared for this moment.

Walking over to begin a post-game conversation with the contestants, “Jeopardy!” host Mayim Bialik reminds everyone to breathe.

“Wow, wow, wow,” she says as she paces over to the contestants. “Let’s all just take a deep breath.”

After congratulating him on the big win, Amodio tells Fisher that their paths may cross once again one day.

“So I’ll see you in 37 games?” he jokingly asks the new reigning “Jeopardy!” champion.

After winning a great sum of money, Amodio will return to everyday life, where he is Ph.D. student at a prestigious Ivy League school. He also plans on hitting the trivia game circuit with his friends once again, joking that he now has an added intimidation factor. He is also likely to be back at future “Jeopardy!” editions such as the Tournament of Champions.
