Reigning “Jeopardy!” champion Matt Amodio has done it once more, handily defeating his opponents in impressive fashion.
The win on Wednesday evening’s episode of “Jeopardy!” now gives Amodio his 20th straight victory. The win moves him into third place in the consecutive wins category. He joins some elite company with his latest win but still has a ways to go before climbing the ladder even further. He is looking up at only “Jeopardy!” legends James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings in terms of consecutive wins. Holzhauer and Jennings, along with Brad Rutter, are largely considered the greatest players to ever take the game show’s stage. Holzhauer won 32-straight contests in 2019. Jennings famously went on a 74-game winning streak in 2004. There are plenty of game show fans who think Amodio could eventually catch up to both champions.
After his latest victory, “Jeopardy!” took to social media to celebrate Amodio’s 20th straight victory. It is safe to say that the champion has plenty of backers that would like to see him continue his climb into the record books.
“Another one for the record books! Matt Amodio is now third for consecutive games won!” the Instagram post proclaims. “Only James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings have won more games.”
The social media post brought out numerous “Jeopardy!” fans in support of Matt Amodio’s historic run. Several commenters wish him luck as he chases down two of the greatest game show contestants of all time.
“Wow. That’s incredibly impressive!” a fan writes. “Wouldn’t it be fun to see Matt, James, and Ken in a match?!!”
“Thank you for the amazing run, Matt!” another “Jeopardy!” a fan writes. Hopefully, there are more wins for you ahead!”
‘Jeopardy!’ Champion is a Favorite of Fans
With his unassuming nature, subtle charm and uber intelligence, Amodio has become a “Jeopardy!” fan favorite.
“I love Matt’s facial expressions every time he is told his total,” a social media user and Matt Amodio fan says. “He is awesome!”
While “Jeopardy!” already has an enormous and loyal fan base — it keeps growing by the day thanks to Amodio’s run. People who have never seen the show are tuning in to watch history being made in front of their eyes.
The Ivy League grad student and former Ohio State University Buckeye has become an overnight celebrity. This is especially true of his hometown of Medina, Ohio, where the city has Amodio fever. How popular is Amodio in the Ohio region? Earlier this summer, he threw out the first pitch before an Akron Rubber Ducks baseball game. Yes, you read that correctly — there is a minor league baseball team called the Rubber Ducks. You have to be a fairly big deal to get the honor of throwing the first pitch before a baseball game.
The question now is just how far Matt Amodio will go. “Jeopardy!” fan support will not be an issue as he chases history.
