So, as all good things, the streak for Matt Amodio has come to an end on Jeopardy! Ken Jennings remains the undisputed GOAT. Although he made it through 38 games, he fell well short of the record 74. However, he did help the show’s ratings.
For the very first time since mid-April, Jeopardy! was able to take the top spot on the syndication ratings according to Nielsen. That boost was during Amodio’s wild 38-game streak. After a drought from their usual spot at the top of the ratings, it probably feels good for the producers to see the show back.
Just last week the show received a 5.5 rating. Amodio was able to make history during the show. He climbed his way up the rankings on the all-time wins list and the total money won list. Through his stint on the show, he brought his own personality and style to the game. While some fans didn’t like him as champion, others tuned in just to see him win another game.
Now, while the Jeopardy! champion is no more, he has a lot to show for it. He moved past James Holzhauer for second all-time in wins. He won six more games than Holzhauer did. However, he was unable to earn nearly as much money. Despite winning over $1.5 million on the show, both Jennings and Holzhauer earned more. $2.5 and $2.4 million respectively.
His run on the show is over but the things he accomplished will live on. There is likely going to be a time in the future when Jennings, Holzhauer, Brad Rutter, and Amodio face off. If that were to happen, it would be quite a showdown.
Jeopardy! Run Ends, but Amodio Feels Accomplished
While he has lost, Amodio doesn’t feel like a loser. Of course, he will always be a Jeopardy! champion. For the time being, he could argue he is the second-best to ever do it. When he looks back at what he’s done on the show, he feels accomplished and did what he set out to do.
“I always wanted to be a Jeopardy! champion, and I accomplished that. I know going into every bar trivia game that I play that I’m going to come in with a little intimidation factor. But also, I just like the bade that it represents. As somebody who priorititzes knowledge and knowing things, this is a really good one to have following me everywhere.”
With a new host and more stability than in the past couple of months with Mayim Bialik, viewers are wanting to tune in again. The Mike Richards debacle cast a shadow over the show. Amodio’s run made viewers excited about the game again as well. It seems the show is ready to return to its former glory.
