‘Jeopardy!’: Mayim Bialik Releases Set Photo After Taking on Temporary Host Duties

by Michael Freeman

To say “Jeopardy!” has been scrambling to find a new host since Alex Trebek’s departure is an understatement. Despite that, Mayim Bialik has embraced being the show’s temporary host, as evidenced by a recent photo taken from the set.

Appearing on the “Jeopardy!” set with her agent, Richard Weitz, Bialik looks right at home.

“My amazing agent @richardweitzla stopped by the set of @Jeopardy! this week. Yup. The same agent I called (aka bugged!!😂) as soon as my son Miles suggested I should host Jeopardy!”

Interestingly, Miles repeating a rumor from Instagram is what prompted Bialik to contact her agent about the role. She confirmed this in a statement Wednesday and expressed her gratitude for being made a temporary host.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the “Jeopardy!” family. What started out with my 15-year-old repeating a rumor from Instagram that I should guest host the show has turned into one of the most exciting and surreal opportunities of my life! I’m so grateful and excited to continue to work with Mike Richards, and I’m just over the moon to join forces with him and Sony. After all the conversations we’ve had about this partnership, I am just so ready to get started!”

Mike Richards’ Role With ‘Jeopardy!’ Is Still In The Air

In spite of Mayim Bialik’s comments about working with Mike Richards, his role with “Jeopardy!” is still a question mark. While stepping down as the show’s permanent host, Richards still wants to function as executive producer, though that may be difficult.

Richards stepped down after past racial and anti-Semitic remarks resurfaced, as well as a sexual harassment lawsuit. Not wanting to take away from the show, he recently released a statement announcing his hosting resignment.

“It pains me that these past incidents and comments have cast such a shadow on “Jeopardy!” as we look to start a new chapter. As I mentioned last week, I was deeply honored to be asked to host the syndicated show and was thrilled by the opportunity to expand my role. However, over the last several days it has become clear that moving forward as host would be too much of a distraction for our fans and not the right move for the show. As such, I will be stepping down as host effective immediately. As a result, we will be canceling production today.”

Initially reporting Richards would undergo sensitivity training while remaining executive producer, even this seems to be hitting a snag. Claire McNear reported Sony executives are worried about Mike Richards and the future of “Jeopardy!” as a whole.

“I think there’s a lot of concern. Especially within Sony and within the “Jeopardy!” staff, that this reliable thing might not be what it was and it could just become another game show.”

Taking McNear’s statements at face value, “Jeopardy!” may be in more danger than originally thought.
