For fans of “Jeopardy!” Alex Trebek in his esteemed suit, reading clues and being sarcastic felt like coming home each night.
Sadly, the late host no longer gets to grace our screens with his fashion, humor, and wit.
“Jeopardy!” has been cycling through different guest hosts since November. Right now, Mayim Bialik is the host of the game show for two weeks. Bialik is an actress, neuroscientist, author, and film director.
Mayim Bialik Outfit Hosting ‘Jeopardy!’
She is most known for her role as Amy Farrah Fowler on the CBS show “The Big Bang Theory” from 2010 to 2019. From her role, she was nominated four times for a Primetime Emmy Award.
In an exclusive interview with “Jeopardy!” Mayim Bialik was asked what fashion choices she would make for the game show. It’s an interview question that some women have come to despise. Bialik explained that she wanted to look professional, while also honoring Alex Trebek, and looking and feeling empowered.
“And for me, I really just wanted to look like the academic that I was trained to be. And to me, that does mean a certain amount of formality and decorum and also, you know, in great respect to Alex Trebek. You know the image I have of him is in a suit. It’s blazer-ed up. So I really wanted to do my version of that. Not because I’m trying to look like a man or because I want to look masculine. I wanted to choose things that were flattering and that I feel comfortable in, which as an actress, you almost never get to have those things,” Bialik said.
She has expressed how much of an “immense honor” it is to host the popular show. When it comes to appearance, it’s something that Bialik ponders at a higher societal level.
“This is actually something that I felt instantly passionate about. You know, much as women are accomplished in many fields, and we’ve made so many changes in how we are represented and how we’re seen, it’s by and large a confusing time, I think, still for women in terms of what we’re expected to look like and what people think when we dress a certain way or don’t,” the actress explained.
Bialik Honored to Host
Mayim Bialik was beyond excited to host the show. In fact, it was her kids, Frederick and Miles, that said she would really make an amazing host on the game show. She then looked into becoming a guest host.
From there, it’s been a lot of excitement and waiting.
“It is an unbelievable honor to even be mentioned in the same sentence as ‘Jeopardy!’ and I’m especially honored to be able to represent women who love game shows and facts and all things geek — especially when they combine with something as entertaining as ‘Jeopardy!'” Bialik said in a statement to the “Today” show.
She also called Trebek “the quintessential host. He was friendly but not too friendly; he was smart but not unapproachable … had a warm smile and a great sense of humor and he was incredibly professional.”
Mayim Bialik will host for two weeks starting on Monday. Then Savannah Guthrie from the “Today” show will take over for two weeks.
