It has been quite a ride for the popular game show “Jeopardy!” over the last few months.
After the death of the popular game show’s iconic host, Alex Trebek last winter, “Jeopardy!” producers took on the difficult task of finding a replacement. And, after a series of guest hosts stepping in over the last season of “Jeopardy!” the game show finally named a replacement, the show’s Executive Producer, Mike Richards.
However, “Jeopardy!” executives soon found themselves searching for a replacement host once again when Richards stepped down from the post. The decision was in response to some resurfaced remarks and legal troubles in Richards’ past that had recently come to light.
Richards Leaves Hosting Gig Behind
However, while Richards may have stepped down from his newly acquired hosting gig, he did stay on as Executive Producer of the long-running game show. And, according to reports, he may be seeking council to make sure he remains in the position.
According to reports, Richards may be getting ready to battle the executives in court to keep his position on the show. Reports state attorney Bryan Freedman is being considered as possible representation for Richards, should he be let go as the “Jeopardy!” Executive Producer.
Freeman has previously represented some big names such as Chris Harrison and Megan Kelly when they needed representation as they exited their posts at ABC and Fox News.
For months, the long-running game show featured a series of guest hosts ranging from “Jeopardy!” champion Ken Jennings, actress and neuroscientist, Mayim Bialik, Katie Couric, LeVar Burton, and even football star, Aaron Rodgers.
“Jeopardy!” Has Been Searching For the Perfect New Host
The change-up to the popular game show was fun for audiences as they welcomed new hosts throughout the most recent season of “Jeopardy!”
However, many fans were eager to hear who would officially be named the new host of “Jeopardy!”
A new “Jeopardy!” host was announced earlier this month when it was announced that longtime “Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards would permanently be taking over the hosting duties. However, this news was short-lived when, after accepting the position, Richards made a turn-around when he announced that he would be stepping down as “Jeopardy!” host even before his hosting gig began.
This move was in reaction to the controversy surrounding some controversial remarks made by the executive producer. It was also discovered that Richards was once the focus of a sexual harassment lawsuit.
Originally, Sony, the company that oversees “Jeopardy!” supported Richards’s decision and while he is turning down the “Jeopardy!” hosting gig, Richards will continue his role as Executive Producer on the show.
This news did not sit well with some “Jeopardy!” fans. It wasn’t long before Sony’s move to keep Richards on as the show’s executive producer.
