Jeopardy! is looking back on its late host Alex Trebek‘s trip to Macchu Picchu with his wife Jean. Trebek passed away from pancreatic cancer at 80 years old last November, but his legacy is an integral part of the show. Trebek hosted Jeopardy! for five decades.
“Perfect day in Machu Picchu with Alex,” the Jeopardy! Instagram account wrote. “Looking for behind-the-scenes stories from MACHU PICCHU? Head to the link in our bio!”
“I miss him so much….” one Jeopardy! fan wrote. “He looks like he enjoyed this trip so much!”
“After hearing him again in these episodes it’s clear to me that nobody can ever be like him. He had phenomenal diction and a suave, gentlemanly way about him,” another fan wrote.
The Jeopardy! Instagram account constantly posts old photos of Trebek. For instance, they recently posted a photo of Trebek in a flight suit that he was gifted by The US Air Force. Apparently, Trebek loved it so much that he didn’t want to take it off when he went to dinner after the photoshoot.
Trebek announced his diagnosis with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2019 and worked on the show up until he passed away last year. After his diagnosis, Trebek received an incredible amount of support from fans and contestants alike.
Trebek provided decades of treasured TV, but Jeopardy! will be continuing on. Fans hope the show will honor his legacy, but the pick for the permanent host has been controversial.
Mike Richards Will Step up as a permanent ‘Jeopardy!’ Host
Jeopardy! spend the better part of the last year testing out a diverse and interesting array of guest hosts. With a ton of fan favorites gunning for the permanent spot, many were hoping that the position would go to someone like LeVar Burton. However, executive producer Mike Richards wound up taking the permanent spot.
According to The Ringer Richards faced multiple lawsuits while working on The Price is Right and staff morale took a hit when he started working on Jeopardy!. According to the publication, even the staff were blindsided by the decision to appoint Richards to the hosting spot.
While Mike Richards is the host, Mayim Bialik will handle the primetime specials and spin-off series. Bialik was one of the many guest-hosts that viewers loved. The neuroscientist and former Big Bang Theory star was thrilled for the position, though many are disappointed that Richards, who is an executive producer, got the role over the fan favorites for the job.
Fans enjoyed Bialik’s guest-hosting run, so many were excited about her appointment. Whatever happens in this upcoming season with Richards and Bialik, Alex Trebek’s crucial influence will live on.
