With the passing of long time host Alex Trebek last year, “Jeopardy!” producers are turning to celebrity guest hosts.
The tour of guest hosts continues on this week as journalist Katie Couric will take over the role for a few weeks. Couric, now 64-years-old, will become the first ever female to host the popular quiz show.
Along with being an iconic television journalist, Couric is also a New York Times best-selling author. She begins her tenure as guest host on Monday and will continue to serve in the role for two weeks. Couric could also receive consideration for the full time gig once Jeopardy! officials pick a permanent host.
Earlier today (Sunday), the Jeopardy! social media page reveals some behind-the-scenes photos of Couric on set. The photos show Couric hard at work as she begins her stint as Jeopardy!’s guest host.
“New episodes of Jeopardy! continue this week with guest host #KatieCouic,” the Instagram posts states.
The first photo shows Couric on the Jeopardy! set, assuming the host’s desk where she will deliver questions to the contestants. The second photo shows her reviewing notes and preparing to run the show.
Couric is a popular choice to host the show as evidenced by this Instagram post. The two photos took in more thousands of “likes” within 20 minutes of going live. It also brought in hundreds of comments with Jeopardy! fans wishing Couric the best of luck on the show.
Jeopardy! Has Slew of Guest Hosts on Deck
Trebek, who hosted the show for decades, passed away last November, losing his battle to pancreatic cancer. Since his passing, Jeopardy! has relied on celebrity guest hosts to keep the show going. Ken Jennings, the most successful contestant is the show’s history, took the first crack at hosting. Jennings did a terrific job from most accounts and is a candidate to take over the role full time in the future.
Jeopardy! Executive Producer Mike Richards wrapped up his stint as host earlier this week. Still to come are Dr. Mehmet Oz, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, journalist Anderson Cooper, television personality Savannah Guthrie, actress Mayim Bialik, journalist Bill Whitaker and Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
