‘Jeopardy!’: Robin Roberts Gives ‘Tuesday Thoughts’ Morning After Guest Hosting Debut

by John Jamison

We are rapidly approaching the end of the “Jeopardy!” guest hosting saga. Joe Buck, the last scheduled guest, is set to appear on the show in less than a month. His appearance roughly coincides with the timeline given by executive producer Mike Richards for the announcement of a new permanent host. But for now, it’s “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts‘ turn.

Monday, Roberts made her debut behind the podium. Of course, her episodes were taped weeks or months ago. But the first look “Jeopardy!” fans got came with the airing of the Monday episode. Fans will have noted the connection between Roberts and the previous guest host, George Stephanopoulos. The two are currently co-anchors on “Good Morning America.”

Fans of the current “Jeopardy!” guest host may be familiar with her morning messages and prayers. Roberts takes to Twitter in the morning, posting a video of her sharing a message for her audience. On Tuesday, the morning following her debut on the iconic game show, she posted one discussing relationships.

“It’s Tuesday, y’all. It is Tuesday. It’s easy to make excuses in relationships. ‘I was rude to her because she was rude to me. I shouldn’t have said it, but, you know, I was so tired,'” Roberts began in the video. “You have God’s grace to always treat others with love and not say hurtful things. Sometimes we let small things keep us from big things God has in store. In the big picture, it’s a small thing to tame your tongue.”

The positive message is typical of the type of thing fans can expect to find in the “Jeopardy!” guest host’s other morning thoughts videos. It never hurts to start the day off with a little self-reflection.

The Search for a Permanent ‘Jeopardy!’ Host Continues

Given everything that Robin Roberts has achieved in her broadcasting career, becoming the permanent host of “Jeopardy!” doesn’t seem likely. However, her appearance on the show makes her the first woman of color to play the role of host.

She hopes to capture the overall feeling that Alex Trebek brought to the show. That’s no easy feat. And one has to imagine whoever can achieve that will stand a pretty good chance of becoming the permanent host.

“No one can be him, but I just want to bring a little of the spirit that he brought each and every time he was here in the studio,” Roberts told “Jeopardy!”

But even if she did opt to throw her hat in the ring, Roberts would encounter some stiff competition. Even discounting current favorites like Ken Jennings and Aaron Rodgers, there are still several guest hosts to go. Among them is LeVar Burton, who was the beneficiary of a viral petition which put his name forward for the gig.

According to executive producer Mike Richards, “Jeopardy!” fans can expect to have an answer by the end of the summer.
