Journalist and television personality Savannah Guthrie officially wrapped her tenure as the guest host of popular game show “Jeopardy!”
Guthrie spent the last two weeks reading clues to contestants and keeping up the quick pace of the quiz show. Guthrie, who says she had a blast on “Jeopardy!” will continue on with NBC News morning show “Today.” Her final “Jeopardy!” episode aired Friday evening as fans and contestants said goodbye to the latest guest host. Guthrie took to social media on Friday to share a photo of her and her mother. In the photo, Guthrie can be been kissing her mother’s cheek in a very sweet photo.
“Lovin up on mama,” she writes in the post’s caption space.
The Friday Instagram post saw plenty of attention and many of Guthrie’s social media followers commented on how well the two ladies look together. Several others took the opportunity to tell Guthrie how great she did hosting “Jeopardy!”
“I know you love being able to see her in person now!” a fan says in reply. “And by the way, I just finished watching tonight’s ‘Jeopardy!’ and you did a great job!”
Guthrie drew mostly positive reviews for her performance on “Jeopardy!” with many saying she looked like a natural behind the host’s podium. The show’s contestants also took a liking to Guthrie’s easy-going personality and charm.
‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Remembers Alex Trebek
Guthrie is the 10th celebrity to handle hosting duties on “Jeopardy!” since the passing of longtime host Alex Trebek. The former host, who passed away on November 8 of last year, stood behind the podium for 37 years. Before taking the stage for her final episode, Guthrie praised Trebek as a giant of the television industry.
“It is evident how loved he is, how much he is missed,” Guthrie says. “This is a family, and I am so thankful to be here and to share in that legacy for just a moment.”
The television host says she has even greater respect for Trebek now that she knows how “Jeopardy!” operates. In an interview with PEOPLE, she says hosting the show isn’t as easy as the late Trebek made it look.
“I am a huge fan of the show, and I’m an even huger fan of Alex Trebek now that I know how hard it is to host Jeopardy!,” she proclaims. “It is really fast and very precise.”
In another social media post, Guthrie thanks “Jeopardy!” for the opportunity to guest host the show. In addition, She was able to raise $217,000 for the Bowery Mission, her charity of choice. She will now hand the torch to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who will begin his two-week tenure on Monday.
