‘Jeopardy!’ Shows Off Contestant’s Huge Smile After Advancing to Tournament of Champions Semifinals

by Thad Mitchell

The annual Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions is currently hitting its stride as former winners converge for a fierce competition.

The Tournament of Champions brings back only the best of the best Jeopardy! contestants over the past few seasons. Only multi-game winners return to Culver City, California to participate in the high-stakes quiz show game. Contestants in the Tournament of Champions are also competing for a massive cash prize of $250,00 in a win and advance style tournament competition. With the Jeopardy! tournament starting just this week, only three players, so far, have stamped their pass to the semifinal matchups.

Yesterday’s (Wednesday) episode saw past winner Jennifer Quail take the win, accumulating more than $20,000 in the opening round. Excited for the win, Jennifer flashes a big smile after her Wednesday episode win. Jeopardy! producers took to social media to congratulate and celebrate their most recent winner.

“Jennifer finished off strong in the quarterfinals,” the Instagram post proclaims. “Next up? The semifinals!”

Quail played an excellent game on Wednesday, defeating the other two contestants by several thousand dollars. She moves one step closer to the playing for the grand prize of $250,000.

Jeopardy! Tournament Contestants Remember Alex Trebek

Though are all happy to return to the game of Jeopardy!, this year’s Tournament of Champions is bitter sweet for some. It is the first edition of the prestigious tournament without game show icon Alex Trebek behind the lectern.

Trebek oversaw Jeopardy! with great care for 36 years without missing a beat on the difficult hosting job. With superior intellect, class and grace, Trebek became a household name for his work on the game show. The legendary host passed away in November of last year at the age of 80. He battled pancreatic cancer for some time but was fulfilling his hosting duties until the very end. In typical Trebek fashion, he recorded his final episodes only days before his death.

While you can’t just replace an Alex Trebek, Jeopardy! producers have kept the show moving forward with celebrity guest hosts. The position has lured some top names like former contestant Ken Jennings, NFL superstar Aaron Rodgers and journalists Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper and Bill Whitaker.

Trebek favorite Buzzy Cohen is currently handling hosting duties for the Tournament of Champions. Actress Mayim Bialik is in the on-deck circle once the tournament concludes next Friday. Journalist Savannah Guthrie will get her hosting opportunity after Bialik.
