Last week, upcoming Jeopardy! guest host Mayim Bialik bravely opened up about her struggle with eating disorders.

American actress, on-screen neuroscientist and author Mayim Bialik will join the star-studded list of celebrities that will serve as guest host for the popular game show Jeopardy!.

She comes after Ken Jennings, Mike Richards, Kate Couric, Dr. Oz, Aaron Rodgers, Anderson Cooper, and Savannah Guthrie all take the stage.

Her air dates have not yet been released.

Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown

However, on Mayim Bialik’s podcast, Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, the 45-year-old star opens up about mental health, specifically her own eating disorder.

Mayim Bialik first highlights how this is the first time she has spoken publicly about her eating disorder. I’m happy to note that she has been in recovery for two years now.

In the podcast, the Big Bang Theory star says that she is an extremist by both overeating and under-eating.

“I happen to be a compulsive overeater, and I’m an anorexic, and I’m a restrictor, and I’ve never said that,” Bialik shared.

Part of Mayim Bialik’s goals for 2021 is to stop comparing herself to this ‘standard’ in Hollywood. This is a challenging notion for her, because after spending almost her whole life in the public eye, these toxic ideals become ingrained in your head.

“I’m trying to release the pressure of being 15 pounds lighter, you know, which is what I quote should be by Hollywood standards,” says Bialik. “I’m trying to release the pressure of, you know, caring that I’m wearing the clothes that make me look like those other women, even though I’m not those other women. Those are my short-term 2021 goals.”

Hell yeah! Wear the outfit you feel comfortable in. Take care of your body. But most importantly, do what makes you happy.

Future Jeopardy! Guest Host on Anorexia

While talking about working as an actress in Hollywood, people would often tell Bialik she is ‘brave’ for being on screen 30 pounds over her normal weight. This fueled the eating disorders.

“People are like, ‘Well, why are you so overweight?’ Well, because I’m a compulsive overeater in addition to being an anorexic and restricted,” states Mayim Bialik with a laugh.

She also says this isn’t the only thing she is “anorexic” with.

“I’m also anorexic with like clothing, beauty products like I will scrimp and scrimp and scrimp.”

At the end of the day, Mayim Bialik says that she just wants to be able to wear an all-black outfit and go about her life. And to that, we say: do it, sister!
