On Saturday evening, Jeopardy! announced newest guest host Robin Roberts’ chosen charity, which will receive a huge donation at the end of her stint on the game show.
The Good Morning America anchor is taking over for her fellow GMA host George Stephanopoulos on Monday night. Stephanopoulos filled in all of last week, and now Roberts will become the temporary host from July 19 to July 23. Ever since iconic host Alex Trebek passed away in November, the popular trivia show has utilized celebrity guest hosts. Former Jeopardy! champions, broadcasters, actors, and even an NFL quarterback have been at the helm of the show this season.
As each new guest host takes over, the game show allows them to pick their favorite charity. Jeopardy! then matches the total contestant winnings during their stint and donates that amount. The game show posted a sneak peek clip of Roberts as host on Twitter. The teaser video also revealed Roberts’ charity of choice in its caption.
The broadcast journalist chose Be The Match as her favorite charity. The organization is helping with the fight to cure blood cancers like leukemia and sickle cell.
“[Good Morning America‘s] Robin Roberts is guest hosting this week! As part of her appearance, Jeopardy! will donate to her chosen charity, Be The Match,” the game show tweeted.
‘Jeopardy!’: George Stephanopoulos’ Co-Host Robin Roberts Made Him Nervous to Guest Host
As Good Morning America anchor George Stephanopoulos‘ run as a guest host comes to an end, his co-worker Robin Roberts is taking over. Before Stephanopoulos took over the game show last week, Jeopardy! shared an exclusive interview with him as he stepped into the temporary gig.
Since the game show pre-tapes its episodes, Stephanopoulos had already completed filming for his five episodes. The interim host looked back at the experience and answered questions about his time on Jeopardy! during the short interview.
While speaking about the show, Stephanopoulos was asked about his GMA co-anchor. Robin Roberts was going to be the next Jeopardy! guest host following Stephanopoulos’ short tenure on the show. Therefore the game show asked Stephanopoulos if he wanted to give Roberts any advice as she takes over on Monday.
“You told me first that you were nervous when I wasn’t nervous – you were so right to be nervous. You made me nervous when you said you were nervous. And you don’t know the half of it. It is a stressful job, but it’s also an incredible amount of fun. You’re going to have a great time,” Stephanopoulos said to Roberts in the interview.
During the same interview, Stephanopoulos revealed more about how nervous he was to guest host the show.
“Sure! Absolutely,” Stephanopoulos said when asked about being nervous to host Jeopardy!. “I mean, it’s ’cause it’s just a very different beast from what I do every single day.”
“On Good Morning America, it’s two hours of live TV every day. You make mistakes. You’re gonna make mistakes. And part of the job is making that into an opportunity, recovering from it. Here on Jeopardy!, no margin of error. You have to be perfect. That’s what the viewers expect. That’s what they deserve,” he added.
