’Jeopardy!’: What’s the Most Money Players Can Win in One Episode?

by Will Shepard

Jeopardy! is arguably the most famous of all the game shows on television. Given its longevity and sustained success, it holds a special place in the annals of the game show world.

The show attracts the very best contestants that game shows have to offer. This is due in part thanks to the amount of money that people can win while on the show.

So, let’s delve into how much contestants can win in a single episode while playing Jeopardy! Several factors will contribute to the overall dollar amount for each episode.

According to MeTV, “The maximum amount of money one can win in a single game is $566,400. One would have to sweep both boards, find and nail all the Daily Doubles at the max value, and bet it all in Final Jeopardy.”

Contestants Playing on “Jeopardy!” Could Win a Lot of Money During a Single Episode

Even though there is an opportunity to win a ton of money during a single episode of Jeopardy!, this is almost impossible. Everything has to go absolutely right for this to happen. There can be absolutely no missteps along the way, and the people that are playing against the winning person basically cannot win at any point.

With all that taken into account, the current highest amount won by a Jeopardy! contestant is significantly lower than the half a million possible. In 2019, James Holzhauer did exceptionally well and won $131,127.

The least amount of money that anyone has won on the show, according to MeTV, is one dollar. On January 19, 1993, Daryl Scott, a lieutenant in the Air Force won with only one dollar. This is exceedingly rare but can certainly happen on Jeopardy!

Ken Jennings, who is hailed as the greatest Jeopardy! player ever, has only ever won $75,000 in a single game. While that pales in comparison to Holzhauer, it is certainly nothing to scoff at.
