Here’s a clue for you: “This program was chosen as the winner of the Best Game Show Award for the third year in the row.” If you answered: “What is ‘Jeopardy!’?” you would be correct.

It was announced via social on Monday, June 21, that the long-running quiz show received the honor during the 2021 Critics Choice Awards.

“We’re also excited to win Best Game Show for the third year in a row!” a tweet shared by the show on Monday said.

According to the Critics Choice Association website, “Jeopardy!” was on the ballot with four other series in the Best Game Show category. The other four shows were “25 Words or Less,” “Supermarket Sweep,” “Weakest Link,” and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”

The award for Best Game Show was just one of many distributed during the awards show. Another award was for Best Competition Series. Two shows tied for this award. They are “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “The Great British Baking Show.” Also, “The Voice” and “The Masked Singer” tied as the winner of the Best Competition Series: Talent/Variety.

‘Jeopardy!’ Host Alex Trebek Receives Impact Award During 2021 Critics Choice Awards

In addition to winning the Best Game Show Award at the 2021 Critics Choice Awards, “Jeopardy!” also saw its late host Alex Trebex receive a posthumous honor. Trebek was chosen to receive the organization’s Impact Award.

The Critics Choice Association had many kind things to say about Trebek: “Mr. Trebek and his legacy epitomize what the Impact Award was created to honor. His longstanding commitment to the pursuit of excellence, his continual encouragement of curiosity, and his unfailing charm made Mr. Trebek one of television’s most respected and beloved figures. He was an inspiration to the nonfiction community that selected him for this award and to the vast audience that welcomed him into their daily lives.”

Fittingly, Matthew and Emily, the children of the legendary “Jeopardy!” host, accepted the award on behalf of their father.

“We are so grateful to receive this award on behalf of our dad,” said Trebek’s son, Matthew. “He would’ve truly appreciated the significance of this honor, as it represents the inspiration that he gave all of us throughout his life.”

Alex Trebek was the host of “Jeopardy!” for 36 years. He passed away in November 2020 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80 years old at the time of his death.

Since the popular host’s passing, several guest hosts have stood behind his podium. This list has included former “Jeopardy!” champions, journalists, television hosts, and more. “Today” host Savannah Guthrie’s episodes as guest host will air through Friday, June 25. After that, CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta will be the guest host beginning on Monday, June 28.
