“Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan has been on an absolute tear recently. The former “Sons of Anarchy” actor has found major success with his writing and directing careers. Sheridan penned two 2021 feature films, the Angelina Jolie-led “Those Who Wish Me Dead” and Michael B. Jordan action thriller “Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse.”
If that wasn’t enough, he has a highly anticipated season of “Yellowstone” premiering soon. And he is currently in the process of filming an exciting new project called “Mayor of Kingstown,” starring Marvel favorite Jeremy Renner. Suffice it to say, the new drama from Taylor Sheridan is music to our ears here at Outsider.
And we’re not the only ones who can’t wait. Mike McLusky actor Jeremy Renner took to Instagram, posting a shadowy silhouette shot of his character on the “Mayor of Kingstown” set.
“BTS… late night at a prison can seem spooky, cause it is!!!” Renner wrote in the caption.
The series promises to deliver with Sheridan’s signature writing. But it will explore some fresh themes at the same time. “Mayor of Kingstown” follows the McLusky family of Kingstown, Michigan. There, the only industry is prison. And brother, business is boomin’.
According to IMDb, the Jeremy Renner-led series will tackle everything from inequality to systemic racism. And if we know anything about Taylor Sheridan, he’ll handle these topics with a deft hand.
It’s Not the First Time Taylor Sheridan has Directed Jeremy Renner
It’s no coincidence that we love Taylor Sheridan’s work. His style feels like it was custom-made for Outsider. His neo-Western projects never fail to blow us away with their grit. That goes for his movies and TV shows alike.
From “Hell or High Water” in 2016 to “Yellowstone,” the complex characters and worlds he’s able to build keep fans coming back for more.
One of his first directing efforts was also critically praised. In 2017, Taylor Sheridan wrote and directed the Wyoming-set crime drama “Wind River.” Jeremy Renner stars as a seasoned hunter. He helps an FBI agent, played by Marvel co-star Elizabeth Olsen. Together, they track down a killer on an Indian reservation.
Clearly, Sheridan and Jeremy Renner work well together. The film won Un Certain Regard – Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival and the American Indian Movie Award. “Wind River” was nominated for countless other awards. And considering “Mayor of Kingstown” is the first time Renner and Sheridan have reunited since the 2017 film, our expectations are high.
It’s hard to keep track of all of the Taylor Sheridan content on the horizon. But follow along with your fellow Outsiders, and we’ll keep you up to date with all of the latest news.
