Jimmy Buffett Gives a Nod To Tom Petty With Poolside Pic

Singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett gives a nod to rock music legend Tom Petty with a pool snapshot on his social media accounts on Tuesday (October 26th).

Jimmy Buffett posted lyrics from Petty’s “Into the Great Open.” It reads, “Into the great wide open/ Under them skies of blue/ Out in the great wide open/ A rebel without a clue.”

The sing was the third track of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ eighth studio album Into the Great Wide Open. It was released in September 1991. Into the Great Wide Open reached number four on the U.S. Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart. However, the single stalled at number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s music video featured Johnny Depp with cameras by Terence Trent D’Arby, Chynna Phillips, and Matt LeBlanc.

Weeks after Tom Petty passed away at the age of 66, Jimmy Buffett took to the stage to perform I Won’t Back Down and Wildflowers.

Along with the nod to Tom Petty, Jimmy Buffett also shared some amazing snapshots of his boat out in the ocean. He captioned that post with, “If you were a permit where would you be.”

Jimmy Buffett Reveals How He Handles Stress

During a July 2020 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Jimmy Buffett opens up about how he handles stress. “There’s something about the natural process of the world and the universe that allows you the time to kind of take a breath,” the musical said.

Jimmy Buffett further explained that it seems that a lot of people aren’t taking the time to take a breath and focus on de-stressing. “It’s not, ‘You got to solve every problem,’ or like everything everybody else does. But everybody needs to take a little breath.”

Jimmy Buffett did say in times like this, everyone still has to have a little fun. “You still have to have a rest from what’s going on. And I knew that was the case. Because a lot of healthcare workers and doctors I’ve known for a long time have used my music in operating rooms and emergency rooms to calm down.”

When asked about mortality, Jimmy Buffet said, “At 73, you know, I looked ahead at people that Know now. We just lost one who was a dear friend and a great inspiration, Carl Reiner, at 98. That’s who I look at up there.”

Jimmy Buffet goes on to say that he’ll look at 80-year-olds that are still “doing it.” He went on to add, “And then I look at the late-70-year-olds that are still doin’ it. So, that’s who I’m watchin’.”

The singer concluded, “Working seems to be the magic elixir when you are lucky enough to be an entertainer, or do things that you can still do at that age.”
