Jodie Foster unleashed a blindside blitz Sunday night after she won a Golden Globe and thanked Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Foster won Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Mauritanian. The Silence of the Lambs star plays a defense attorney who must unravel a wide-ranging plot against a man being held without charge in Guantanamo Bay.
The ceremony was virtual this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Foster and her wife, Alex, called in from their living room wearing pajamas with their dog Ziggy. After shouting out her co-stars and the real-life inspiration for the film, she got to her personal thank-yous.
“I love my wife — thank you, Alex — and Ziggy, and Aaron Rodgers, and, you know, the Hollywood Foreign Press,” she said.
Foster promised she’d thank Rodgers if she won after he thanked her in his NFL MVP acceptance speech last month. How did we get here?

Jodi Foster is a massive Green Bay Packers fan. She’s been a vocal supporter of the team for decades, but she admits she doesn’t know Rodgers. However, she does know his fiancee. Foster and Shailene Woodley worked together on The Mauritanian.
“I decided, I am not only a huge Packers fan, but I’m a competitive MVP fan (for) Aaron Rodgers,” she joked in the virtual backstage.
But why we ended up with competing thank yous is unclear.
“I have never met Aaron Rodgers, but it is possible that I do like to talk about how much I love the Green Bay Packers,” Foster continued, according to ESPN. “Sometimes I can talk a little bit too much about that, so of course Shailene was very aware of my enthusiasm for the team.”
Jimmy Kimmel asked Foster about Rodgers’ shout-out on a recent episode of his late-night show, but she didn’t explain their relationship. But she did say she was going to repay the thanks.
We may never know exactly how this all came about. Rodgers kept his engagement hidden from both the obsessive celebrity press and the personality-hungry sports reporters for some time. It’s clear he can keep a secret.
And, apparently, this isn’t over. Rodgers has already promised Foster he plans to retaliate.
“I got a very cute video from Aaron Rodgers where he said he’s going to get me back,” Foster said. “I’m looking forward to this. We’ll see who wins.”
