Chicago-born actor Joey Morgan, who you may recognize from titles such as Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, has passed away.

The cause of the 28-year-old’s death is still unknown. But Chris Landon, the director of 2015’s Scouts Guide, which starred Morgan alongside Tye Sheridan and Logan Miller, confirmed the young actor’s passing.

According to The Sun, Morgan passed away today, Sunday, November 21. A representative for Joey Morgan issued a statement in which he asked for privacy as Morgan’s loved ones grieve.

“Joey Morgan came into my life nearly 9 years ago when I made Scouts. He was quiet, funny, intelligent, and thoughtful. And when the cameras rolled, he was magnetic. He passed today, and the news is heartbreaking. I am honored to have known him,” wrote Christopher Landon.

The Young Actor’s Short and Busy Career

Morgan was voted a Breakout Talent at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. He earned the designation following his portrayal of Luke Sherman in Flower.

His debut came in 2015’s Scouts Guide, but he was busy in the years following. Morgan appeared in DeTour, Compadres, Margaret and the Moon, and Flower in the two-year span from 2015 to 2017. He also logged a guest-starring role as a character named Ted Baylor in an episode of Chicago Med during that time.

2018 was no different. Joey Morgan logged prominent roles in Camp Manna and Sierra Burgess is a Loser while still making time to appear on the Rashida Jones-led crime comedy Angie Tribeca. In 2019, Joey earned a series regular role as Christopher on the short-lived Critters: A New Binge. His final part came in 2020 as Reggie in Max Reload and the Nether Blasters.
