Almost a year after tragically losing wife and mother Kelly Preston, John Travolta and his son, Benjamin, enjoy a night out together. The father-son duo attended the Stanley Cup Playoffs, cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning. Luckily for the Travolta boys, the “Bolts” won the game against the Montreal Canadiens, 3 to 1. On his Instagram, Travolta shared a quick clip of him and his son enjoying each other’s company at the game. For fans of the actor, it was good to see him and Benjamin smiling after a difficult year.
John Travolta Mourns Loss of His Wife, Kelly Preston
Last July, John Travolta lost his wife, Kelly Preston, to breast cancer at age 57. This September would have been the couple’s 30th wedding anniversary. Together, the pair had three children, Jett, Ella and Benjamin. Jett tragically passed in 2009 at age 16. Ella is now 21 years old, and Benjamin is now 11. According to Travolta, Preston’s battle with cancer lasted two years. However, the family kept Preston’s condition as private as they could.
Once John Travolta opened up about the loss of his wife, he poured out love and admiration for his late love.
In the caption of an Instagram post honoring his wife, Travolta wrote, “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
While grieving her passing, the actor still found room in his heart to thank the medical team that helped his wife.
“My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side,” Travolta wrote. “Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”
Travolta’s Daughter Honors Her Mother
Like her father, Travolta’s 21-year-old daughter, Ella, also paid her respects to her mother on Instagram. The perfect mix of her parents’ images, Ella has her father’s dark hair and mother’s sweet smile.
In her post, Ella writes, “I have never met anyone as courageous, strong, beautiful and loving as you.
Anyone who is lucky enough to have known you or to have ever been in your presence will agree that you have a glow and a light that never ceases to shine and that makes anyone around you feel instantly happy.”
Ever her father’s daughter, she, too, finds room to be grateful, thanking her mother for her love and purpose. While a tragic loss to the Travolta family, it’s clear that they are more than willing to keep Preston’s image alive.
Hopefully, Ella’s dedication to her mother will help Benjamin remember her as well. Even though the loss is still new, Travolta ensures his son’s youthful years are full of laughter and joy. Just like their trip to the playoffs, the father will likely be spending plenty of precious time with his kids.
