John Travolta Opens Up on Discussing Death with 10-Year-Old Son After Kelly Preston’s Passing

by Matthew Memrick

John Travolta recently talked about death with his 10-year-old son after the passing of Kelly Preston last year.

Yahoo! News recounted the Peacock series “Hart to Heart” interview with Travolta. He told actor/interviewer Kevin Hart that his son, Benjamin, said he was scared he would lose his dad too.

Preston died from metastatic breast cancer last year after a two-year battle. Another Travolta son, Jett, died in 2009. The 21-year-old Ella Bleu Travolta, the couple’s middle child, is an actress and singer.

John Travolta explained to his son that there were differences in his mother’s limited life and his longevity.

The actor went on to say he told his young son the truth, saying, “nobody knows when they’re gonna go or when they’re going to stay.”

He went with his blunt response: “Your brother left at 16. Too young. Your mother left at 57. That was too young. But who’s to say? I could die too tomorrow. You could. Anybody can.”

John Travolta tried to reassure his son, saying: “You just do your best at trying to live the longest you can.”

After Jett’s death, John Travolta started the Jett Travolta Foundation to help children with special needs. Jett Travolta was autistic, suffered from seizures, and lived with Kawasaki disease from age 2.

John Travolta Feels ‘Eternally 21’

Also, in the interview, Travolta admitted he was looking at aging all wrong after another conversation with Ben.

When Ben Travolta asked more questions, the 67-year-old John Travolta revealed that he was in life’s “last chapter.” But he told his son he feels “eternally 21” at heart.

Ben Travolta pressed further about his dad’s memories, asking if he remembered 30 years ago. Dad said yes. Ben Travolta then wondered if his dad had 30 more years left to live. John Travolta said, “‘Yeah, I do. I have at least 30 more years.”

The son responded: “What’s wrong with that?”

Now, with just Ben and Ella Bleu to look after, Travolta said he wants to leave the world with his kids doing great. He’s already proud of Ella Bleu Travolta.

The actor says he’s loved life “as an actor and performer” and hopes to get Ben into acting in the future.

“So I want to leave this world with them doing great,” John Travolta said. “And they already are, but my main thing is to pay it forward to them.”

John Travolta’s Proud Of His Daughter

Ella Bleu Travolta was wearing a blue dress for the updated version of Alice’s iconic dress.
