Kathie Lee Gifford is revealing some shocking news to PEOPLE magazine.

The former talk show host turned entrepreneur is opening up about her time with the now-convicted Bill Cosby. The two worked together for two years, and Gifford admits Cosby became a “good friend” to her during that time. However, Cosby who’s in prison for sexual assault did violate their friendship.

“He tried to kiss me,” she remembers. “He was not the first man during a multi-decade career that came on to me, and I’m just very grateful that I never let any of them take it any further than that.”

The 67-year-old says that Cosby was a different man when they worked together. The “Cosby Show” star was known as “America’s dad.”

However, Cosby, 83, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence in Pennsylvania. The comedian’s convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting a former Temple University employee at his home in 2004.

Gifford continues to recall the incident, “And the one and only time that he did try to kiss me, I said, ‘No. Bill, you’re my friend.’ He goes, ‘You’re right. Good night.’ So I found those accusations against him very painful because that’s not the man I knew.”

Kathie Lee Gifford Remembers Their Travels

Gifford says that she never witnessed this behavior during her time spent with Cosby.

“I never saw anybody personally being treated that way by him in two years, traveling all over the country, staying in the same house with him whenever we went to Harris, or in Reno,” Gifford details.

“We had great fun together, and I never thought a thing of it ever. He would make me cappuccinos, he’d make the girls cappuccinos, he would pour me a glass of wine on occasion, and I would read the stories about how he would put drugs in other women’s drinks and it was just foreign to me,” she says.

Also Gifford isn’t judging the other women that has similar experiences with Cosby.

“I didn’t doubt the women’s stories,” she states. “I don’t know why he behaved the way he did with the other women, that’s their story to tell.”

Gifford Pens Memoir, Writes About Incident

Gifford dedicates a chapter in her new memoir “It’s Never Too Late,” about the incident. She says that the chapter that recounts the “unusual encounter” with Cosby is about “how you think you know somebody.” Overall, the author admits in her book that she was “surprised” by the attempted kiss. However, Gifford states that she “didn’t feel panicked” at the situation.

“I was as surprised as the rest of the world when, years later, Bill Cosby, at one time the most respected and admired man in America, was accused of all manner of despicable acts with a myriad of women,” Gifford writes.
