Kelly Clarkson was among the stars who performed on NBC’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center special. On Wednesday night, Clarkson gave her first performance since details surrounding her ongoing divorce leaked.

“The Voice” coach performed a song from her 2013 Christmas album, Wrapped in Red. Singing “Underneath the Tree,” Clarkson performed from her home base in Los Angeles, where she films her Emmy-winning talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. Throughout the performance, Clarkson sang with a live and socially distanced band.

Many viewers believe The “American Idol” winner’s performance was a success. Clarkson kicked off the show at the beginning of the special, using her booming voice to sing the holiday tune. Twitter users were quick to commend Clarkson on her impressive skills. In contrast to the successful performance, the shadow surrounding Clarkson’s ongoing divorce may have dampened her holiday spirit.

Kelly Clarkson’s Ongoing Divorce Comes to a Head

Despite the holiday joy, Clarkson is recuperating from a recent custody battle with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. This week a judge awarded Clarkson primary custody of her children, 6-year-old River Rose and 4-year-old Remington Alexander. According to Entertainment Tonight, Blackstock will see the children on the first, third, and fifth weekends of each month.

Regardless of Blackstock’s attempts, the children will spend most of their time in Los Angeles with their mom. During the third weekend of each month, the children will visit Blackstock in Montana, where he currently resides.

In addition to the custody battle, Blackstock is attempting to receive $436,000 each month in child and spousal support. A source close to Clarkson told People her team is dismissing the request.

“Brandon’s been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees,” the source said. “Kelly’s offered to pay for all the kids’ expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301K in spousal support and $135K in child support per month.”
