Given the year she’s had, it only makes sense Kelly Clarkson won’t be writing a fairytale Christmas tune. However, any day is a good day when the singer releases new music, so what more could we ask for?
Besides, the best Christmas songs often have a hint of sadness behind those sweet melodies. (Raise your hand if you’re thinking Joni Mitchell’s “River”).
In a teaser on Instagram, the star released a photo of a few lines to her new song. Fans are – appropriately – reacting wildly.
“One week until my new Christmas single is released! Here are some of the lyrics..,” Clarkson captioned her photo.
While it’s just a snippet of words, we can already tell the song is going to be beautifully poignant.
“Lost at first/Thinking that I might be cursed/ Winter Wonderlands/ Weren’t made for one,” the photo says.
Kelly Clarkson’s New “Personal” Album
Additionally, it’s been a while since the “Behind These Hazel Eyes” singer released new music, so we’re wondering if her new album will be a take on her recent struggles. The singer hinted at the feature song in another social media post this September.
“Y’all know I’m obsessed with Christmas!!!” she said. “That’s why I’m so excited to announce my new single Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You) is coming out September 23rd!! Pre-save it now!! You’re gonna love it.”
Further, not only does Clarkson judge “The Voice” contestants, she also has her own talk show. The singer has her hand in a number of projects. This is all on top of her public and messy divorce.
After Kelly Clarkson split from former music manager Brandon Blackstock, things got unpleasant quickly. The singer battled Blackstock for custody of their two children as well as for child support payments and property. After she announced her new album, some thought she may have drawn some inspiration from the relationship. Clarkson basically confirmed this.
In a recent interview with “Today” host Willie Geist, Clarkson opened up about how personal her album would be.
“This next record, this will probably be the most personal one I’ve ever released,” Clarkson said. “The whole record is basically every emotion you experience from the beginning of a relationship to the end of what it is now or where it is now. It’s been very therapeutic for me. It’s very honest.”
While some stars would shy away from discussing their personal lives, Clarkson faces her issues head-on, addressing issues she knows others struggle with as well.
“I think a lot of people, especially in the creative world, or just from childhood, you’ve been kind of trained to, like, just keep going and you can handle it. Especially as a woman, it’s like, ‘Don’t let ‘em see you sweat,'” the singer said.
