Kelly Clarkson surprised a non-profit organization with a $10,000 donation on Veterans Day.

Alongside guest Olivia Munn, Clarkson interviewed Lt. Colonel Dan Rooney of the United States Air Force on the Nov. 11 episode of her show. Rooney is the CEO and founder of the non-profit organization Folds of Honor. According to Clarkson, the charity “gives scholarships to spouses and children of fallen or wounded service members.”

“The journey of folds of honor is nothing short of biblical,” Rooney told Clarkson. “We’ve got 28,000 recipients now – that’s about $140 million out the door since we’ve started in these life-changing educational scholarships.”

Rooney went on to say that 41 percent of the scholarships provided by Folds of Honor go to minority students. “… equality comes through education in this country and we’re glad to fight for that,” Rooney said.

Kelly Clarkson also welcomed the Shelvin family to the show. Both father, Leroy, and mother, Litisha, served in the military. Their eldest daughter, Shamira, previously received a scholarship from Folds of Honor to attend San Antonio College in Texas.

“Folds of Honor has been a tremendous blessing for our family,” Litisha said.

Rooney later announced that Serenity, the Shelvin’s youngest daughter, would also be receiving a scholarship from Folds of Honor. “We will be awarding you a scholarship just like your sister,” Rooney said. “We are committed as an organization for $20,000 over four years.”

Following the announcement of Serenity’s scholarship, Clarkson also told Rooney that Veterans United Home Loans would be providing $10,000 to Folds of Honor in support of the organization’s efforts.

“That’s two more scholarships that we’ll pay forward,” Rooney said.

“This is a great thing,” Clarkson said at the end of the segment.
