Kelly Osbourne revealed some personal details about her recent relapse. The daughter of the “Prince of Darkness” (otherwise known as Ozzy Osbourne) has been battling addiction for years. Along with her brother, Jack Osbourne, and her rocker dad, Ozzy, who both also share the same struggle.
According to Fox News, Kelly explained how she was triggered into drinking alcohol again after seeing a couple sipping champagne at a pool.
“I was alone, sitting by a pool and waiting for somebody to come have a meeting with me,” she described on her “Facebook Watch” show. “And I saw this woman and her husband had a glass of champagne. It looked really nice and I was like, ‘I can do that, too.’ And the next day, I had two glasses. And the day after that, it was bottles.”
Exposed to alcohol at such a young age, the former “Fashion Police” host recounts her dad being the “heaviest” drinker she’s ever seen.
At the age of 13, Kelly needed tonsil surgery and was prescribed Vicodin. After that, she was hooked on pain medication.
During an appearance on “Red Table Talk,” Kelly opened up about her supportive family. she also feels grateful to have such a close bond with her brother, who’s 18 months sober, as well as her dad, who’s been sober for nearly seven years.
“We’ve turned something so ugly into something that’s actually really beautiful,” she said.
Although, her dad Ozzy is very dependable, the 36-year-old admits she’s more “honest” with Jack.
“I told him everything (about my relapse) and him and I put together a plan,” Kelly added.
Kelly Osbourne Addiction Began at 13 Years Old
After undergoing tonsil surgery at the age of 13, Kelly Osbourne found herself addicted to prescribed pain medication. The first opiate she tried, Vicodin, opened the door to a lifelong battle of substance use disorder.
It went quickly from Vicodin and Percocet to heroin. Her first stint in rehab was when she was 19 years old, since then she’s been seven times.
According to Fox News, Kelly realized the drug silenced her insecurities.
“It felt like life gave me a hug,” she explained. “Vicodin will do that.”
Eventually, Kelly moved on to stronger, more addictive drugs. The Vicodin led to her misusing Percocet, and then heroin, “because it was cheaper.”
She’s been discussing her drug and alcohol battles for several years in various interviews. In addition, Kelly wrote a memoir in 2017 entitled “There Is No F*cking Secret.” It’s told as a series of letters to people and places in her life. Giving readers an intimate look, it discussed the influences that shaped her life, for better or worse.
