Ken Jennings Net Worth Revealed as He Replaces Alex Trebek as Interim Host of Jeopardy!

by Quentin Blount

Ken Jennings, the all-time winningest contestant on Jeopardy!, debuted as a guest host on Monday.

With Jennings back making an appearance on Jeopardy!, along with his other new show, The Chase, many of his fans have been wondering how much the interim guest host is worth after all of his victories.

Evidently, Jennings is valued at approximately $4 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. He put together a 74-game win streak during his Jeopardy! debut. As a result, he collected $3,370,700 in winnings. Aside from that streak, Jennings brought home another $1 million after defeating James Holzhauer and Brad Ruter during the Greatest of All-Time tournament in January 2020.

Jennings also made an appearance on the popular game shows, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader and Grand Slam. His earnings from those two shows contributed close to $600,000 more in winnings to his name.

In addition to all of his game show winnings, Jennings kept his programming job during his crazy run on Jeopardy!. However, he eventually changed professions, transitioning into a full-time freelance writer. The new Jeopardy! host first published “Brainiac: Adventures in the Curious, Competitive, Compulsive World of Trivia Buffs.” Jennings has a series of children’s books to his name as well, among several others.

Meanwhile, if Jennings does eventually take over as the full-time host of Jeopardy!, there’s no question his net worth would see an increase.

Ken Jennings Honors Alex Trebek

Tuesday’s episode of Jeopardy! — the show’s 8,311th episode since it first started in 1984 — was the first one without Alex Trebek. The legendary host died in November at the age of 80. There’s no doubt the popular game show entered an uncertain era this year. However, by the end of the most recent episode, the show’s future looked a lot more assured with Ken Jennings as host.

Jennings walked out onto the stage following Johnny Gilbert’s introduction — “Here is the guest host of Jeopardy!, Ken Jennings!”

After his introduction, Jennings spoke about Trebek and about his own time as a contestant on the show.

“Like all Jeopardy! fans, I miss Alex — very much,” said Jennings. “And I thank him for everything he did for all of us. Let’s be totally clear: No one will ever replace the great Alex Trebek. But we can honor him by playing the game he loved.”

Jennings reportedly filmed six weeks’ worth of episodes as the first guest host to fill in for Alex Trebek on the show.

Along with Jennings, a few other notable names have emerged as potential replacements for Trebek. This list features a number of famous candidates including Katie Couric, who will also serve as a guest host. Additionally, there are others who are rumored to be interested such as Anderson Cooper and George Stephanopoulos. The network has not yet revealed a timeline for announcing a new full-time host.
