Kevin Costner’s Co-Star in New Movie ‘Let Him Go’ Says He Helped Her Learn to ‘Handle Guns’

In a cast interview for their film ‘Let Him Go’, Lesley Manville gushes over Kevin Costner and how he got her comfortable using guns on set.

U.K. actress Lesley Manville may be best known to American audiences as “Flittle” in Disney’s Maleficent films. The truth is, however, that she’s an immensely gifted actor with a tremendous resume of powerful roles under her belt.

Now, she’s flexing her chops in thriller Let Him Go. The film is described as an American neo-Western drama film. Thomas Bezucha is producing, and has written & directed the feature, based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Larry Watson. So what brought Manville onboard?

“The character, really. I was very overwhelmed,” she says, “to be asked to play an American woman in an American film.”

“I do enjoy playing a bad girl. And I mean, it’s – there’s something I can’t quite put my finger on that makes it terribly nice and really enjoyable,” Manville laughs.

Not only does she get to play a “bad girl”, but alongside two of America’s finest actors to ever grace the screen: Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.

“They’re two fantastic actors. You know, the three of us are kind of roughly in the same age territory. So we’ve all been doing it for a long time. So it just felt like – hooking up with some other really experienced actors.”

Her favorite part of working with Costner, however, was his knowledge of guns. He also happens to be an excellent teacher, according to Manville.

“Kevin was really good at teaching me how to handle guns,” she smiles. “And there I was hitting Diane Lane – obviously not really hitting her… but tt was a very good time on set – and off set. Lovely, as well. I could not have had a better time. I kind of didn’t want to come home, really.”

“Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Lesley Manville spoke to THR about their new dramatic thriller ‘Let Him Go.’ They also opened up about working together, and why they think this film will surprise audiences. Focus Features’ ‘Let Him Go’ hits theaters on November 6.”

Costner Was Immediately Sold on LET HIM GO

How does Costner feel about working with Manville and the film in general? If the interview is to judge by, all three of these lead actors truly enjoyed every minute.

“I think movies are at their best when they are surprising us,” Costner says in regards to the script. “When they do take us some place we didn’t expect to go.”

Being unable to predict, or set down, the script whilst reading it had Costner won over almost instantly.

“They can be about so many things,” he continues. “But when I read “Let Him Go” I didn’t really know where it was going.”

“And when I started to feel it – is hopefully when the audience will start to feel it. It put a lot of dread in me. But I just kept reading, because I couldn’t stop watching the couple who were in love – and were really going the wrong way.”

Kostner ends his portion of the interview by telling fans this one “keeps its promise,” and will have audiences on the edge of their seat.

Let Him Go hits theaters this Friday, November 6th. Costner will also make his return to Yellowstone for Season 4 in 2021.
