Kirstie Alley recently tweeted that she was looking forward to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. That quickly changed. Shortly after the parade began Alley tweeted her disgust with a performance from a Broadway musical that featured “sexy singer numbers” and “drug songs.”

Alley was referring to the new musical “Jagged Little Pill.” Performers from the Broadway show based on Alanis Morissette’s music sang “You Learn” from the new show. The pre-taped segment featured the cast dancing in the street with a couch during the song. But Alley felt the performance was too sexual.

Furthermore, several people in her replies felt the same way.

Alley had tweeted earlier this week she was excited about the parade.

“Thankful for The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade tomorrow !! Something normal.. Yes yes yes I know it’s pre-recorded so don’t come at me with that. I don’t care. It’s something wonderful.”

As she said, most of the parade’s performances were pre-recorded because of the restrictions the pandemic placed on the annual event. However, it still included several other Broadway performances, giant balloons, and festive floats. No audience was allowed to attend the parade, meaning this is one of the only years the show has been a TV-only event.

Twitter Joins Kirstie Alley in Hating Performance

Alley wasn’t alone in hating the musical number. Morissette’s name started trending on Twitter immediately after it had finished. And judging by the tweets, most people found the entire thing cringe-inducing.

Many people said they this wasn’t the right venue for that type of performance.

“Plus i feel like this was very much the wrong venue for this. Without staging, context, etc., it just felt like a bunch of people strangely standing around singing an Alanis Morissette song. … which I guess is exactly what it was,” one woman tweeted.

Not all the performances got such middling to bad reviews. Fans loved the Hamilton‘s musical number. They also gave the performance from Dolly Parton glowing reviews.
