Kristen Bell said her husband Dax Shepard is doing well after he revealed he had suffered a relapse abusing prescription pain killers. The “Frozen” star said in an interview with Ellen Degeneres that she is standing by her husband because “he is very, very worth it.”
Shepard, 45, admitted to falling off the wagon after 16 years of sobriety during an episode of his podcast “Armchair Expert” last month.
“He is actually doing really great. I mean look, everybody’s up against their own demons. Sometimes it’s anxiety and depression, sometimes it’s substance abuse,” Bell told DeGeneres. “And the thing I love most about Dax is he was able to tell me and tell us and say we need a different plan.”
Doctors prescribed Shepard pain killers after he was injured in a motorcycle wreck in August, USA Today reported. But he quickly began to abuse them until he was taking them “all day.”
Shepard has been very open about his past struggles with alcohol and drugs. But he said he began to lie to Bell and podcast producer Monica Padman and act “shady” to hide his recent relapse.
“I’m so sorry that I lied to you and so many people,” Shepard said to Padman. “It’s really regretful and shameful and really bums me out that I’m that person sometimes.”
He broke down and asked them for help two weeks ago, USA Today said.

Bell, 40, married Shepard in 2013. They have two daughters, Lincoln, 7, and Delta, 5.
In her interview with Degeneres, Kristen Bell said the couple is going back to therapy and are creating a “stronger plan,” USA Today said.
“One of the main reasons I love him is that he’s also addicted to growth,” Bell added. “He’s addicted to evolving. He was like ‘I don’t want to risk this family and kids, so let’s put new things in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again.’ … I just love that he’s addicted to growth, and I will continue to stand by him because he’s very, very worth it.”
Shepard said that support from his family and fans has been overwhelming. And though he was grateful, he said he feels guilty, E! reported.
“My fears were the opposite of what the result was, yeah,” he replied. “But yeah, struggling with some fraudulent feelings of receiving love based on a f–kup. But, at any rate, I am really, really grateful, and there’s so many beautiful, nice people.
